'You have strong opinions on a time you never experienced pomeroy, you turn to an internet forum to vent your anger but you are unwilling to go to the agm of pomeroy plunketts and suggest a name change to something less republican. I wonder why???? Money, where and mouth are words that spring to mind. '

Nope, he goes right ahead and posts it again. I'm out, I don't know how I can say it in any simpler terms

You learn something every day, well some of us do.

Others already know it all.

Patrique......thankyou.I know it couldn't have been easy for a man of your calibre to concede to such.

815417 So because I didn't wish to meet up with a stranger I can't be from Pomeroy. That logic is frightening. Okay mate you got me, I'm a Belfast unionist who just happens to know all about Pomeroy and football in Pomeroy. It's a major talking point down here all right

You do not know what happens in pomeroy you make up things that did not happen , so you also going to slate the soap stars that refuse to wear poppy.

I always assumed Pomeroy were named after Oliver Plunkett.................never actually thought of Joseph Mary.

Really Patrique, this is something you always assumed? Well what have you assumed about the naming of Omagh,Errigal Ciaran,Ardboe or other clubs in Tyrone?Or is only intermediate Tyrone clubs that garner your interest?

I used to drive over to Pomeroy at night just to slap a few people about.

terrible being a bully.

But I love Strabane Sigerson's, named after George himself.

In 1491 Cork played a part in the English Wars of the Roses when Perkin Warbeck, a pretender to the English throne, landed in the city and tried to recruit support for a plot to overthrow Henry VII of England. The mayor of Cork and several important citizens went with Warbeck to England but when the rebellion collapsed they were all captured and executed. Cork's nickname of the 'rebel city' originates in these events. The nickname was later applied to the whole county.

So the loyalists in Cork wanted King Perkin instead of King henry?

A common theme in Irish history, loyalists like Owen Roe O'Neill and Patrick Sarsfield defending the monarchy.

Although it would make you a rebel.

So you support ethnic cleansing...wow...and you have the audacity to criticise others. The mentality of nationalists on here is not the best.

There was never any ethnic cleansing of protestants in west cork. West cork still has plenty of protestants and they're fine irish men as you would expect.

A few landlords got exactly what was coming to them, I don't shed tears for such people.

The problem with the poppy for me is that no longer commemorates the fallen in The Great war (inc Irishmen) or indeed WW2. It now commemorates
ALL British servicemen ( the army they fought for, not necessarily their nationality) who have fallen in conflicts all over the World

Therefore, by definition that includes IRELAND ( pre partition and The Troubles ) which I am not comfortable commemorating, obviously!!

no i do not agree with ethnic cleansing , but if want to talk about ethnic cleansing is that what some of these landlords tried to do with the rightful owners of the land around west cork and beyond the rest of the country for that matter , ethnic cleansing of a languge people and idenity , was part and parcel of british imperial rule in ireland especially in and around west cork , hurlingspuds is spot on , like him i would share no tears for some of the landlords mentioned , there deeds would shame the devil in hell .
