I'd imagine that the Government will still vote against the writ and fight against the peoples right to full representation in the Supreme court.

Fair play to him. He's a very strong candidate. Of course what they're doing is a disgrace in a democracy. More shameful behaviour from FF.

Looks now as if the government are going to accept the ruling. Expect the by-election by the end of the month.

FF are a shadow of their former selves and obviously hold the people of Donegal and the entire State in very low regard. Their arragance knows no bounds, clinging to power by hook or by crook in order to protect the social elite at the expense of everyone else. Their Mugabesque attempts at avoiding democratic elections is now having a serious impact on the finacial stability of the State, give the people an immediate General Election. Well done Pearse Doherty.

The Government used state money to challenge the case and Sinn Fein used money from .............. to take the case. One big banana republic with corruption and crime to the fore.

How will the shinners be holding the balance of power. Fianna Fail have a secret weapon in mind for the Donegal by elction and that is Packie Bonner.

It's hardly a secret and I can't see why he'd give up his job in the FAI which pays E160,000 for a T.D's salary of around 98,000

If Bonner was to run and if people were to elect him, then they deserve whatever they get! Can't see him running myself. Would be an ignominious departure from public life if he was to run and get beaten!

Its great that Sinn Fein are around to defend outr constitutional right to vote. Pity they weren't so interested in the constitutional right to life during the last 40 years

Well no16 calling, maybe if the British Government had been more interested in the right to life when they sent the Paratroopers to murder unarmed protestors in 1972 or when they unleashed paid agents in the UDA and UVF to murder hundreds of innocent nationalists. And if I do recollect correctly it was the republicans who stopped?

I would expect sinn fein to win the seat in Donegal giving their rising support there and the fact that Pearse Doherty was pushing for the election. I think people will back them in a protest vote against the government. Isn't Packie more inclined towards the blueshirts? All that is needed is a couple of TD's to quit over the budget and sinn fein could be in a very influential position.

Pearse Doherty deserves credit for at least challenging the government on the issue. What has any other person or party been doing?

Ya lads I'm sure Pearse dreamt up the idea. Sinn Fein challenged it and sent him forward as their new poster boy. They are hoping he gets the youthful vote! As bad as FF anf FG are, any of their candidates would get my vote ahead of a Sinn Fein candidate.

You should vote for the candidate who will do his best for his area and who represents your views. You should do this regardless of which party he represents. There are enough people in politics who are there only to feather their own nests. Politics is full of corruption and voting for someone who was a footballer is ridiculous. Are there not enough fools in politics already who are bleeding the country dry ??

John O'Donaghue will walk back into the Dáil after the election for precisely those reasons Slasher.

Happy about that?
