I feel sorry for Louth and the way they were treated or mistreated and totally understand why they feel such hurt. Its a no win for them now as the didnt get the cup and yet will be expected to prove they were worthy champions come next summer. The ref should have admitted he had a grudge against the Louth players for time wasteing instead of this "MISTAKE" as it is referred to. I think his track record speaks for itself as reguards future games and think his future is in club football in his own county.

maroon2gold you are spot on. Sludden made inappropriate comments to one of the Louth players shortly before he allowed Meath to commit 3 fouls in the immediate run up to the ball ending up in the back of the net. Sludden knows what he said and has shown no remorse for what he did, he knows he'll never change his ways because he cant, that's just the way he is. Trouble and controversy will never be far away when Martin Sludden is in charge of a game.

Ps Dell did the umpire happen to tell you that just prior to Sludden running in to tell him to raise the flag that he had clearly signalled to Sludden by criss crossing his hands that it wasn't a goal. Sludden was at least 25 mts away from the play at the time .

You're wrong Dell, I was there and seen the immediate reaction of the umpire, the umpire who was told to raise the green flag was not always on the tv. When the Louth players were pleading with the refereee the umpire out of camera shot at the time clearly signialled to referee sludden 'no goal'. Sludden then ran in and told him to raise the flag. FACT

BallsMcQ Am right and your the one that is wrong 100% because both umpires stood there like dummies and done nothing so run along there with your lies for someone else.

Dummies being the operative word for all three officials concerned Dell. The players on both the Meath and Louth teams have been involved in football all their lives in the hope of making a final of this magnitude. Twenty nine of the thirty players who took the field were playing in their first Leinster Final. They deserved far better than what they got from the officials. It's time you reflected on that Dell

Guys, no amount of debate or spouting the ref said this or the umpire criss-crossed that is going to change what happened now.

Meath's 2010 Leinster championship will forever be tainted by this, they know it, and it will always be a year of heartache for Louth. Perhaps Sludden should not be allowed to referee championship matches again as a result.

But Louth will never succeed in their quest for future glories if they don't move on from this

Lads will someone close this topic down it's a joke. Firstly you have Meath people coming on here telling louth fans to get over the Leinster final when it is clear that they are not over it. It was a Meath fan that started this topic and for what reason I don't know. Maybe the fact that they all taught they would beat Louth easy in Leinster final that they can not deal with the fact that Louth were clearly the better team over the whole game. It's been almost 6 months nobody on Louth forum talking about it but you still have Meath fans starting a new topic on it as if there wasn't enough topics on it already. I know I am long over it because all you can do now is try your best next year and see what happens. Now Meath fans please stop talking about it and maybe start a new topic on the spilt that is clearly in Meath football. Yes we have a new manager then we don't then we do. Make up your mind and pick a manager it really won't make a difference as he will get sack after one year anyway.

I don't agree that "it will always be a year of heartache for Louth" One incident where a match official robbed us of a provincial senior football title, our first in 53 years does not constitute a year of heartache IMO. We started 2010 with a whole new management team, we introduce many new and promising youngsters to the senior panel. We reached our first Leinster senior football final in 50 years, and if it wasn't for a poor match referee we'd have won that final. We also secured our second Leinster junior football championship in a row and as was the case last year we were narrowly beat by one point in the All-Ireland semi-final by the eventual winners of the competition. Our u-21 team succumbed to Dublin in extra-time in the Leinster u-21 championship, a game Louth could have won in normal time, Dublin subsequently went on and won the AI.
The awards bestowed on Paddy Keenan the Louth mid-fielder in 2010 clearly show that it wasn't a year of heartache for Louth, Paddy's awards are testimony to the massive contribution given by all the other members of the Louth panel. Paddy Keenan is one of the best footballers in the country but without his team mates he couldn't and wouldn't have achieved what he did achieve, in short therefore his achievements were a team effort.

Looking forward to 2011 I'd imagine that the priority will be on getting promotion from division 3 of the NFL, something I have not doubt Louth will achieve. The 2011 Leinster championship will be no different to other years, it will be though but it will be though for all the teams. It would be nice and indeed a great achievement if the WEE county could make back to back Leinster finals, if that doesn't materialize however it wont be the end of the world for us, we'll just dust ourselves down and give the qualifiers a lash.
To conclude I will say this 'if I enjoy 2011 half as much as I did 2010 then I'll certainly have had another great year following the WEE County'.

Well said Squidword, you're a credit to your county's fanfare.

I apologise if I undermined Louth's achievments of 2010 and wish you all the best for 2011.
