hill16no1man, i understand his point but it is complete rubbish to suggest that a high percentage of off 100 inter county players would probably be playing soccer at the top level and getting paid big money now. Let's take the high percentage as being 80 for example and "the top level" as being the Premier League of 20. So BB thinks each Premier League club would have an average of 4 inter county players! africangael your still not getting it he means if they gre up playing soccer like tp soccer players did that they are ever bit as talented and fit and skillfull as the soccer guys are that they would have made it in that game if it were bred into them as kids like gaa was.you dont seem to get also that people prefer gaelic to soccer like he does why automaticaly do u think because sum1 is skillfull it means they have to play soccer i say this bcoz u mention getting trapattoni on to them if i had chocie of playing a a rooney or bernard brogan positions i would choose brogan as i would choose dublin over any soccer team.i dont get your fascination with soccer anyway i always found soccer to be an easier game to play then gaelic or hurling you dont need to learn as many skills as in gaelic or hurling its only big because of the media and cum on its quite boring to watch for 90mins there is nowere near as much happening in a soccer match as a gaa match and they are complete pussys when it comes to the physical elemant hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 31/10/2010 15:08:50 806623 Link 0 |
Oh yea soccer is very boring, I suppose that's the reason it's the most popular game in the world! You need to understand soccer to enjoy it and not just watch it for the goals. Gaelic football has turned into a game of "pulling and dragging" (Not much skill in that). Of course Bernard Brogan is a great forward, as a matter of fact this time last year I wrote on this forum that I thought pound for pound he was the best in the country and I think he went on to prove that in both the League and the Championship even thought most people disagreed with my assessment of him at the time. There would be plenty of Premier League players who could play GF. Plenty of them manage to hoof the ball over the bar consistently on a weekly basis! Soccer is deadly dull now Africangael. Look at all the PL sides who are applauded for working hard and chiselling out 0-0 draws. Rangers made the UEFA Cup Final a couple of years ago by winning most rounds on away goals, every round playing dull, negative soccer and relying on defence. Barcelona are the exception, but most sides revert to negative tactics so as to avoid defeat. Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 31/10/2010 18:05:02 806719 Link 0 |
lads your worse for debating with him. his one lined supposed "factual comments" are there to wind you up, nothing more. id actually be surprised if admin wernt using his user name just to try spice things up...the liam brady comment says enough. bernie obviously has a point, he is simply saying that he believes his levels of skill and fitness are as good as an english born premiership player. i tend to agree with him, especially in the last decade or so i think its gone to another level. bernie isnt presupposing that there is anything special about GAA players, one would have to feel if any potential english born premier league soccer player was born in ireland they could easily be a top level GAA player. i suppose the crux of his point is that he feels that there is little difference between him and the likes of rooney etc in terms of skills and fitness bar the 250,000 quid a week pay difference. either, or, 250,000 or not im glad we have bernie and not rooney. seany16 (Dublin) - Posts: 1663 - 31/10/2010 18:31:10 806747 Link 0 |
Tongo, you can't really compare Rangers defensive game plan to a Gaelic football match but it's perfectly understandable Rangers and others would do that as they know they will get hammered otherwise when they come up against better opposition in Europe. GAA people are narrow minded about football or soccer as you call it..if you knew how hard soccer players worked or realised how talented they actually are youd respect them. Its not they're fault theyre getting 100,000 a week?Gaelic games are superb games with excellent people involved in them. But Football is the exact same you just have to expect the whole package that comes with it because of its globalisation and popularity. proevo (Meath) - Posts: 296 - 31/10/2010 21:13:22 806898 Link 0 |
I think you'll find Africangael that there was some excellent GF played this summer and many have deemed it to be the best Champo for some time. The likes of Kildare, Down and, on occasions, Dublin played some very entertaining GF. And there were some fantastic matches in the Hurling champo. Afterall, BB did say GAA was better, not just GF. Mind you, I don't think it matters what anyone says, all you're interested in is slagging off Gaelic games, so maybe it is time to listen to seany16 and move on! Soccer is all money & haircuts to me, I only watch it when the national team are playing which is about your origin & pride, similarly that's why I follow the GAA religiously. I'm not hammering soccer, people are free to follow sports for whatever reason they wish but I think it can be summed up in 1 simple sentence: gigoer (Wexford) - Posts: 1998 - 01/11/2010 12:41:51 807056 Link 0 |

africangael soccer is the most popular sport for 3 reasons. no1 the most important MONEY it gets the biggest wages so people want to earn the wages do u realy think wayne rooney or stephen ireland would stick at playing soccer if they were not getting paid? no2 its played world wide because the brits invaded most of the countrys and forced them to speak english and play there games rugby soccer and cricket. no3 the media, the media dictate what people watch just look at the x factor for godsake its not even irish and they get full media coverage here and its promoted off the hilt and evry1 then watches it its simply the same as soccer english soccer takes up at least 10 pages in our papers and gaa and other sports get 1 or 2 pages so people generally read or view more of soccer and tend to think its better if gaa was taking up that amount of pages it would change peoples mind like sheep, just look at rugby it got no coverage in ireland until the last few years now bcoz the natoinal and club teams got better it gets huge publicity and now u have thousands going to matches especialy leinster and munster which used to get paltry crowds hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 02/11/2010 11:42:23 807745 Link 0 |

hill16no1man, Id say your not busy as a personal trainer if that is your attitude towards any sports person and it is fairly obvious that you know damn all about what it takes to become a professional footballer .A GAA county player would not be as fit as a league of Ireland player and the reason is that they are amateurs and cant put in the time or the effort to become that fit .It showed over the last 2 weeks how far they were behind the Australians when the Aussies needed to step up a gear it was no problem and really only played in 3rd gear. tinrylandman (Carlow) - Posts: 387 - 02/11/2010 13:45:33 807870 Link 0 |
I think hill16no1man is right on this. Soccer does have its merits and I have to admit to a certain weakness for watching Barcelona. But a lot of it is media and commercially driven and as he says the papers are full every day of lots of rubbish about the English Premiership which to me is a fairly predicatable and boring competition where most of the excitement is generated by what happens off the field in court rooms and board rooms. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 02/11/2010 13:48:18 807872 Link 0 |
