Only fools think the GAA is not a business. And what has "born in England" got to do with it. BB is good but it's very easy to shine at gaelic games but would soon be found out at pro sports just like graham geraghty was. Bloody hell if you were allowed to carry the ball around a soccer pitch Messi would score 20 goals per game! It's a joke of a game when you have the brains to think about it properly.

he stated if 100 top gaelic players were born in england{meaning they wud have grown up playing soccer as gaelic is not played there}theywould have played soccer as kids and made it as soccer players bcoz they have every bit as much good at there choosen sport as soccer players do.

honestly the comment about messi is stupid he is great soccer player but he wud get destroyed if he was trying to carry a ball around as ur suggesting on a gaelic pitch as his physique wud not allow him to stand up to a tackle full stop he wud be rolling around the pitch like all soccer players do and can u name me any soccer player who has made it as a top gaa player

Fair play Bernard, great to see that pride still has a meaning in the GAA.

Hurlingdub, hill16no1man is right, you should not slate anybody who prefers football to hurling, they deserve your pity.

Okay... You made a comment based on the quote from Brogan. The quote states about players being born in England. You have mentioned George Best (he's from Belfast) and Lionel Messi (Argenina but has played in Catalunya since he was 13). I've checked google maps but it seems none of these places are in England. So as well as completely missing the point of his quote you have also selected two players who were not even remotely close to who he was referring to.

And yes, the GAA is a business but the type of business who puts the vast amount of it's profits back into the grassroots clubs and developement of the games. Soccer is the type of business that puts the vast amount of it's profits into Wayne Rooney's pocket.

if Bernard or any other GAA player had the talent to play soccer and a top club offered them a chance to play for them they would jump at the chance as would any of us i know defo would what a handy life they have and at the end of the day we are all just jealous

Well hill16, I think the quotes prove that I certainly do not hate the footballers. I was as disappointed as anyone when they were beaten by Cork. I do have a problem with the band wagon fans and I do resent the hurlers being made play second fiddle - AGAIN with the Tipp/Cork double header. As you say most football supporters don't support the hurling so tell me what the fk is the point in having us on as a warm up act for people who come in late in the hurling game??? Daly should put his foot down and tell Croke Park and DCB where to go.

yes alot of football fans dnt support the hurlers but i and alot of the people i go to the matches with support both teams and go to both teams matches seperatly so to have them on the same bill is great in my opinion.i dont buy into why not just u but alot of hurling followers want to play always in parnell put it this way the all ireland quarters and semi and final are all in croke park and leinster final so there more experiance the hurlers get playing in croker the better they will become they wnt win anything in parnell apart from a walsh cup so it can only benifit them

Well said.

As I've said before there is no point in the hurlers giving up a game in Parnell Park. They'll end up playing in front of an empty Croke Park because the 'die hards' will still be in the boozer.

I take your point and I wasn't getting at you. The fact you are on here proves that you are genuine supporter. You know the type I mean. As for the Parnell thing. Hurlers havebrilliant record in Parnell and beat Tipp there last year. I think they would also have beaten Antrim handily enough had that game been in Parnell and it was a HOME fixture. Playing Tipp in the league in Croke Park and what could be a vital match points wise is a definite disadvantage. There will be no more than 10-15,000 scattered around the place whereas Parnell would be packed and the hurlers thrive in that atmosphere. Having said that, of course I will be there and for both games ;-)

doublehop, it is YOU who has missed the point my good man. In giving examples of two non English players the point is you don't have to be born in England to play soccer at the highest level. Brogan is trying to say that he may have been some sort of soccer star at the highest level if he wasn't so unlucky to have been born in Ireland. It's total rubbish. The only real soccer star the 26 counties produced was Liam Brady in my opinion. Wouldn't it have been a shame if he decided to stay at home and be brain washed by the gah.

your missing the point africangael.brogan ment if the people he mentioned grew up in england they obviously wouldnt have choose to play gaelic as its not a sport played in england so the 11players would have grew up playing soccer and what he means is they have the skill and talent to have made it in soccer if they decided to play that from the age of four or five like they did with gaa.he wud rather play gaelic like many people in ireland he is just proving a point

i understand your point hulingdub that yes in smaller enviornment for league points yes might be better but for the development of hurling at the top level which they still are few years off unfortunatly the more games in croke park the better they will be come accustomed to bigger matches and will be able to compete to win championship games against tipp or cork instead of just hoping to give them a run for their money

As you say we are still years off being a top force and might never be. All the more reason to use every advantage we have at the moment! Time was when Cats used regularly surrender home advantage to us at underage. They don't do that any more. Lesson in that as well!
