Any more "inside" nuggets of info on developments here Dellboy? BRING_ON_GURTY! (Meath) - Posts: 712 - 04/11/2010 20:58:39 809907 Link 0 |
Well it now looks like Banty's name is the one being put forward to the delegates for ratification. The big question is are there enough clubs with the "traditionalist" mindset of not appointing an outsider who will oppose him. Hopefully the majority will see sense and acknowledge that he is the best man for the job (out of those applied). men_of_49 (Meath) - Posts: 2015 - 05/11/2010 13:36:55 810242 Link 0 |
So much rumour and rubbish from so called sources has soured the process as has the idiotic dilly dallying of the county board, I sincerely hope that the delegates who caused this mess in the first place by ousting Eamon O'Brien keep their collective traps shut and allow this appontment, which I think is a very good one, be rubberstamped without issue. Banty got his way anyhow so looks like up to the clubs now hope they do not go against the county board again , so the issue over backroom staff sorted . Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 05/11/2010 16:06:24 810366 Link 0 |
Does anyone know what kind of training other county panels are doing at the moment? We have a great chance to clinch promotion next spring and Banty might be able to finally beat Tyrone. The sooner this mess gets sorted the better. An Mhí Abu. urizen (Meath) - Posts: 117 - 05/11/2010 17:19:26 810423 Link 0 |
That was my point with the question there RichieQ. BRING_ON_GURTY! (Meath) - Posts: 712 - 05/11/2010 17:27:27 810434 Link 0 |
BRING_ON_GURTY What i was told there was issues over backroom staff and now the meath county board have agreed to allow banty to do what he wanted in first place as they where not giving him what he wanted before and stalled it , so they want him as manager now as far as i was told there putting it to the clubs now , that is all i know but like i said they first did not agree on his team of men and nearly let him go but have changed there minds when meeting last nite . Wud it not make more sense to do da decent ting and giv eamon o' brien da job bak? He dun ok while he was there , all-ireland semi, quarter and leinster final. Altho McEnaney dun great work in monaghan, in da games da mattered they lost. Apart from Tyrone in Ulster , losing to Fermanagh in 08 was a disaster plus they never made the breakthrough in NFL. Hes a decent manager but so was O 'Brien and he was treated disgracefully in da end. Goin for an outside boss it wud hav ta be sum1 wit a huge c.v like Micko or Kernan. philbrown (Westmeath) - Posts: 239 - 05/11/2010 20:00:14 810560 Link 0 |

Martin Breheny had a good article in yesterday's Indo which is a good summary of where Meath find themselves I think. doublehop (Kildare) - Posts: 4172 - 05/11/2010 20:43:40 810590 Link 0 |
Apologies for the "text speak" but could people still not acknowledge the point that o'Brien should still have this job . .? I thought at the outset he was nominated to run for it but maybe thats changed now. Banty is a decent boss but all i'm saying is that Meath had an ok manager and are now willing to stab O'Brien in the back and most likely spend a fair bit of money on a guy who really hasn't delivered a major trophy in all the years that he had Monaghan . Fair enough huge progress was made under the Banty but ultimately the big prize eluded him. In my view Monaghan shud hav taken a gamble and got Micko for 2011 to give it one last shot while Meath just needed to stick wit O'Brien who was doing ok. philbrown (Westmeath) - Posts: 239 - 05/11/2010 21:37:32 810649 Link 0 |

I would agree that O'Brien should still have his job. However in the delegates eyes his failure is not getting a clearly superior Meath team over the minnows from Kildare. The words 'poisoned' and 'chalice' spring to mind! doublehop (Kildare) - Posts: 4172 - 06/11/2010 08:37:26 810672 Link 0 |
A Monaghan man teaching the Meath boys how to play football !! Cant understand what the big attraction with Banty is, what exactly did he do with Monaghan apart from getting them into division 1. As for Grimley, we all thought in Kildare that he was the brains behind McGeeney for the first two years he was with us but we went further this year without him. While Grimley definetley brings something to the party I dont think he's the mastermind a lot of people think he is. carburycastle (Kildare) - Posts: 203 - 06/11/2010 11:30:31 810710 Link 0 |
Thanks toma007, your intelligent contribution is valued as always. People should remeber that this is not all just about McEnaney and Grimley, the addition of Liam Harnan was a big deal for a lot of Meath people as he is highly regarded as a good coach and a man who takes no s**t from players or officials so having him involved was seen as a big bonus and allegedly other Meath people are to be added to the backroom team when the appointment is approved. The buck starts and ends with Banty, doesn't matter who else is on the backroom team. BallsMcQ (USA) - Posts: 941 - 06/11/2010 13:31:48 810762 Link 0 |
Yes the buck does end with Banty but to say that whoever else is on the backroom team does not matter is silly, from a defensive point of view the addition of Harnan will be seen as a boost to introducing some more efficent tackling and an edge that has been sorely missing and McElkennon is widely viewed as an excellent fitness coach so there are two very importatnt elements in my view. The buck stops with Banty for the backroom team he picks to assist him, no manager today does it all by himself or wins by himself, yes he may get all the praise or all the blame but that is a media thing as the manager is also the PR face, everyone knows that in the real set up each man is as valued as the next.
