Leinster Club Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Anybody got any thoughts on the Leinster Club Championship this year?

Surely Kilmacud are raging hot favourites now? Portlaoise a close second probably with Rhode being a real dark horse. Niall McNamee just oozes class. I cant talk him up enough. A fantastic display again yesterday. I know I'll get slated for this but I reckon he's as good as any footballer in the country right now, the complete package.

Any of the other sides left that could maybe make an impact? Sarsfiields or Moorefield maybe? Don't know if Skyrne will be able to mix it as far as winning a provincial goes anyway. Rathnew's day may have passed also…….

I also think Niall McNamee is a top class player, not sure if you could him in the same bracket as Cooper, mcDonnell, brogan etc but still is a class act.
Moorefield are going well in Kildare and face a Sarsfields team at the weekend minus the services of Dermot Earley and Alan Barry, but they still have have the ability to beat the Moores, if I had to call it I would go with Moorefield by 2 or 3 points, Ronan Sweeney and Dave White are flying at the minute.

I don't think the Carlow champions have much of a chance this year with what I have seen.

Did I not read that McNamee also kicked a rake of wides in the county final?

On his day though he's unmarkable.

Firstly I think it's a bit premature talking about teams that haven't even won the county title yet ie Crokes !!
No mention of Dessie Dolan & co ie Garrycastle. Granted they haven't set the world alight so far but have done enough each time.
But I agree McNamee is outstanding - he always reminds me of Matty Forde - simlar style, physique etc.
Rhode could be a decent bet - anybody checked the odds for all contenders ?

From my own counties perspective wouldnt be too worried about Skryne! Sure they scored 21 points in a County Final but conceded 4 goals and if Senechalstown had taken all the chances they created the could have conceded 8! Our county final this year is very similar to our county team full of NICE players and NICE football. Gone are the days in Meath when 8-10 points would win the county final!!!

Rhode are in with good chance alright, appear to be on the easier side of the draw too so they should fancy their chances of at least getting to the final. If Niall McNamee and Anton Sullivan can keep up the good work inside then they'll be hard to stop for any defence. I'd fancy Portlaois and Moorefield to come out of their respective counties while Dublin will be harder to judge but Crokes will probably be favourites. The 3 of those teams on the same side of the draw would make it very competitive.

This is the full draw

1 Kildare v Laois 24/10/2010
2 Kildare/Laois v Dublin 7/11/2010

3 Westmeath v Longford 24/10/2010
4 Westmeath/Longford v Louth 7/11/2010

5 Meath v Wicklow 24/10/2010
6 Meath/Wicklow v Wexford 7/11/2010

7 Carlow v Offaly 24/10/2010

Semi Finals

2 v 4
6 v 7

I find Skryne at 9/1 quite tempting especially with home draws so to speak at each stage

portlaoise were to win the all ireland last year as well and were well bet bye the clare winners who were well
bet in the final after. portlaoise have a great team but i think the supporters put to much pressure on them.
Portlaoise won't win the leinster as handy as some lads think on here.

they have to play the Dublin and Kildare winners and there Garrycastle who portlaoise lucky to beat last year in it
Plus Rhode of offaly who were the last leinster team to beat them two years ago so there a lot of football to be played yet
as portlaoise are not out of laois yet but i do think they will win on sunday.

have portlaoise fans not learn from last year building the team up for a big fall again.

Am i right in saying portlaoise will represent laois even if arles beat them on sunday, its too hard to call leinster, anyone coulkd win it, kilmacud brigids plaoise skryne garycastle rhode and the kildare champs would be as good as one another, so itl be all on the day, not to mention other clubs going is as underdogs could upset a few teams./ injuries after the internationbal rules could also change things in a big way, but ill be hoping rhode get a good run anyway they deserve a leinster, but that dosent mean they will win one
