The IQ of the types who attend their concerts would not be too high now in all fairness,

Ya, they're still on the go. Seen them live years ago and they were fairly poor. Having said that I was sober. All the lads that were full thought they were great.
I like some of the rebel ballads but not when they sing them.
Give me Gary Og any day.
Whether or not you like that type of music you'd have to admit he's a great singer.

the real republicans up north must really despise this band, very cosy for them down through the years singing about the troubles from the comforts of the south , while deep down inside not really diving a damn.

The only True Great Irish band that composed, arranged and performs their music based on traditional Irish jigs and reels,They are regarded as the 'founding fathers of Celtic rock for their fusion of traditional Irish music with rock music and went on to inspire many local and international acts the group formed in 1970 and disbanded in 1980. I heard they were asked to contribute towards the 'republican cause' in Belfast in the 70's and 80's, when they refused they were told they were no longer welcome. As far as I know they haven't played there for ages.

They're **** anyway. Destroying great Irish tunes for a long time now!

These people were making a fortune singing about people in the North of Ireland getting killed. Their inane songs also "inspired" others to go and get themselves killed.

Meanwhile the brave lads were living mostly in New York!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suspect they used to ask dying gunmen "what's your name? O'Shaughnessy, nothing rhymes with that, quick see if you can find someone called Reid or something".

I was proud to have been part of the Queen's University Gaelic Football team that beat the **** out of them in the Castle Vaults Inn, Salthill, around 1973/74.

The Tones, despite making a handsome living by pretending to like northerners, took an instant dislike to us when they heard our accents.

That Queen's side not only contained about 4 all stars, but had some serious hard men, even one from Tyrone.

An enjoyable night.

He certainly is not referring to the Tones musical ability. Now the mandolin would not be my first instrument but I can play it a lot better than anyone in the Tones.

And you say the same for whistle, guitar, bodhran, and blues harp.

Horslips, johnny, Charlie, Jim, Eamon and Barry.........LEGENDS.

These guys combined trad with rock and were brilliant, Ireland's best ever in my opinion.

I had abandoned them when my son came and asked me about a tune once, he said it was from an add for The Royal Irish Rangers???????

He hummed it, I played it on mandolin, thought that's "My Lagan Love" and then thought, "Fantasia".....HORSLIPS.

The son is now friendly with Johnny Fean as the son is a guitarist, has been to a few reunions, owns every DVD and CD, and finally got to see them last year.

I was lucky to have seen them a few times at Queen's first time around.

Legends.
