Broggie - Stick with the club?

Brogan doubtful for Australia

Dublin's Bernard Brogan is facing a club v country dilemma, and could miss the upcoming International Rules series if his club qualifies for the Dublin SFC final.

If St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh should defeat St. Brigid's in Saturday's Dublin SFC semi-final, Brogan would miss the opening International Rules Test against Australia, as the county final is scheduled for the weekend of October 22-24.

"I think the dates are meant to be the same - the weekend of the 23rd," said Brogan, who missed the 2008 tour to Australia when Plunkett's last reached the final.

"We have to beat Brigid's first and it would be a nice predicament to be in, but it would be something you'd have to make a decision on. I don't know what way that will go."

In my own selfish opinion I'd like to keep him well clear of that exhibition game against the Aussies!

Club before country .. but county before club would be my preferences ..

Its only an exhibition this whole aussie rule carry on .. Its nothing majorly important .. so for that reason and that reason only i would without question expect Bernie to play for Oliver Plunketts before Ireland ..

i honestly think brogan will play for his club you know from hearing him talk that he is dedicated and committed to the game and for him not to play for his club would be surprising like its an important club game

Of course he'll stick with the club, every player would. But what I would say is that if Brogan and MD McAuley are selected the clubs should try and come to some arrangement to allow them to play both games if that's their wish. After all regardless of what you think of the IR series it is an honour for both clubs to have their players represent Ireland.

It's all very hypothetical, they have to beat Brigids 1st which is a derby game.but to me,the county board should do the decent thing and play the county final on the Tuesday night in between the two Rules games, cus at the end of the day,the Rules games are a reward for players for having a good championship, both Bernard & Mick Darragh are shoe-Ins for All-Stars,so they deserve it.the Rules series in my opinion,is the real All-Stars game.

The club should come first but one would like to think that an arrangement could be agreed upon, it is obvious that he wants to play for Ireland, and who wouldn't, as well as lead his club and his presence on the international stage would be welcome so hopefully "broggie" or "bernie" or maybe just Bernard Brogan will get the chance to fulfill both his wishes. I hope so.

Boggie? Jayo? Fenno? Deco? Anto?

Why do ye Dubs persist with all these stupid unimaginative nicknames for you players? Is it a soccer thing?

Well you'd know all about that... I mean dont you follow Man Utd for heaven sake ;)

The thing is "Nacca"... why does it bother you so much? Unimaginative nicknames... hahaha what a thing to get irate about... Dont you have more pressing matters such as playing kiss chasing around the farm with your first cousin Mary...

Jaysus I know us Dubs come under a bit of stick, and in some cases it's well deserved… But that's a first for me... getting roasted on "Unimaginative nicknames"...

ha-ha Fantastic stuff..

Jeeze…

PS

I know an Offaly lad... Used to work with him, nice fella... do you know what his mates called him back home?

Johno - I was at the Leinster Final with him a few years back; his mates were sound enough, now that I think of it... There was also a Dano among their ranks, huge fella.

Unimaginative Nicknames... pfffhhh ... talk about scraping the barrel... don't worry man, I'm sure there will be some Dublin muppet that causes a bit of bother during a Dubs game soon enough,
