I read a thread on a county forum where hurling was ridiculed as being an easy sport to play and that 1 Liam McCarthy is the equivalent of 5 Sam Maguires, I had to laugh. The point that was trying to be made was that there is only a couple of teams that can win the hurling but the same is also true with the football. Was this just an isolated incident or is that the common concensus, thoughts tipptothetop (Tipperary) - Posts: 531 - 02/10/2010 17:12:41 788929 Link 0 |
They may have meant the Liam McCarthy would fit into the Sam Maguire 5 times. Sam is quite a bit bigger. laflour (Cavan) - Posts: 528 - 02/10/2010 17:41:08 788937 Link 0 |

Hurling is the greatest game ever invented, I love football but it's a poor second to hurling. Tom1916 (Armagh) - Posts: 2001 - 02/10/2010 20:24:18 789028 Link 0 |
I agree with you Tom1916 I love football, but hurling is not a skill you can learn its a skill that your born with. fortyfive (Tyrone) - Posts: 5929 - 02/10/2010 20:37:15 789041 Link 0 |
Nothing comes close to the magnificent game of hurling. This game is known all around the world. For some idiot to claim that it is an "easy" game, must be out of his/her mind! Goatsucker (Offaly) - Posts: 265 - 02/10/2010 20:56:16 789054 Link 0 |
Hurling is far more skillful no question but football is a far more exciting championship. Hurling will always be 2nd to football in terms of prestigue. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1139 - 02/10/2010 21:07:09 789066 Link 0 |
agree totally with county man the hurling is far better to watch for the skill element but the football championship is far more competitive b.mullins (Dublin) - Posts: 1413 - 02/10/2010 21:33:46 789076 Link 0 |
Dad told me about a story when he was at College in Wales and on the Sunday of the All Ireland final a load of the Welsh Lads had gathered to watch a soccer match on the Tv but it had been cancelled due to some reason and in its place the Tv station put on the Hurling..He said the Welsh lads were aboslutely mesmirised at the skill on display and the tenacity of the players and how they took so many tough hits compared to soccer swinginbeauts (Tyrone) - Posts: 73 - 02/10/2010 21:51:05 789086 Link 0 |

I wouldn't agree with that at all, I have never heard football being ridiculed like hurling is. I enjoy football and don't class them as 2 different sports, I always played both sports as did 99% of my club so to hear this kind of talk is alien to me, I just wanted to hear the rest of the countrys opinion on this topic. tipptothetop (Tipperary) - Posts: 531 - 03/10/2010 17:20:19 789305 Link 0 |

Just ignore the anti-Hurling brigade. Of all the games that i've seen this year, the Galway-Offaly Leinster s-f replay and the Galway-Tipp q-f were by some distance the best two. There may only be a few counties that can compete for Liam, but what quality matches they produce. Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 03/10/2010 20:52:55 789468 Link 0 |
