James Horan gets Mayo job

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

its unny reading the reports online. the dublin based media seem upset and shocked tommy lyons hasent got the job. lyons was never a favourite among mayo players or supporters. it leaked that a few board memebers wanted him - but thankfully have decided against it.

All i say is that he has 1 hell of a job on his hands. Mayo are in freefall and they need a strong character to lift them again. I really dunno whats wrong in Mayo but imo they need to get rid of some of the waste on the team who have failed to do the business on several occassions. Best of luck to him. Its a rocky road ahead.

Wish him the best - Certainly a bigger challenge than building the airport but given the backroom team i'd say he will give it a good run.

the best of luck to james and his back room team. james has a great knowledge of the club scene in mayo and he seen a lot of different displays from various teams and players all year between league and champ in mayo this season. as a result of this i expect to see a different mayo team on display in the fpd and national league in 2011. listening to a radio interview that he gave on thursday he said that he will use the managers of the clubs in mayo when scouting for new players. this shows that he intends to make changes to the existing panel. i don't expect anything special from mayo next year, if they reach a connaught final/last 8 it will be serious progress. it is the start of a new era in mayo football, lets hope that its a good one. up mayo!!

I predict this will prove to be the managerial appointment of the season. As someone said Horan can do for Mayo what McCartan has done for Down. Good move by the Mayo Co. board, must have been hard to turn down Lyons' charm and CV.

This appointment is down to the players expressing their dissatisfaction at the process which had Tommy Lyons as their favoured candidate. In my opinion the county board were pressurised onto this decision and thank god they were! But I still think there still needs to be a huge clear out in the county board .

Another good man about to disappear into the abyss that comes with the green and red!!

....have to admire any man that takes on such a poisioned chalice, to believe he can breath life into something so lifeless!!
