Sunday Game Team of the Year

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Will there be football Allstar nominations?

From a Sligo viewpoint, Donovan, Kelly, Harrison and Costello all deserve mention, not sure they deserve one though. Id be suprised if Roscommon got one, after playing london, leitrim, sligo and Cork, they didnt have to do much to win connacht. Dont think Sligo or Roscommon will get one.

I'll be happy enough with the selection as long as Coulter, Doyle, Keenan, Galvin all get one and Brogan is named player of the year.

780284 Im starting to get really angry about having John Doyle on the programme and not on the team, something that didn't initially twig with me such was my amazement that he was left of the team, someone needs a few lashes of the cat o' nine tails for that one, highly embarrising for all concerned and no way to treat Doyle.

Yes, the more I think of it, the more it bugs me. Very insensistive and an insult to the man who is top scorer of the year.

paddy keenan on the team absolute joke another sympathy vote like early last year mc cauley for sure. based on sunday which should have a high tariff. the only down players id have in the team are mcveigh (who might lose out to quirke or cluxton) hughes who has been outstanding all season and clarke. coulter had two good halfs of football all year v donegal and kildare wasnt seen against kerry tyrone or cork. i thought mckernan was shocking on sunday in the first ten minutes he was dragged all over the place and his distribution in the second half was terrible reminds me of that other speedster horse devlin. young walsh has been outstanding for cork and must be in the team. whilst the forward line of brogan goulding and o connor picks itself id have paddy kelly completing the half forward line. kissane bolton and jordan easily the the best three half backs in the country. shields mcgrillen and maybe harrison from sligo bestfullbacks the year. but im sure that will not be the case.

Wasnt seen against kerry or Cork? I saw him against kerry alright and he was one of the chief tormentors with 3 terrific points. Against Cork he was one of the most threatening forwards all day and his high fielding was a joy to watch, even if he didnt set the scoreboard alight. If I was picking a forward line tomorrow he'd DEFINITELY be in it.

"paddy keenan on the team absolute joke"

I think you need to see a proper doctor, 'redoctor'. Paddy has been super in the middle of the field all year..

John Doyle for Paddy Kelly so, but certainly not for the Gooch. Cork don't deserve many All-Stars in the forwards. Two of their best forwards, Colm O'Neill & Donnacha O'Connor, spent a lot of the year warming the bench, and Kerrigan's form suffered as well, due to being played out of position a lot. Is it any wonder that they didn't click for 30mins last Sunday.

The treatment of Johnny Doyle on sunday night was absolute disgrace. Shocking stuff from the sunday game panelists and RTE. The nerve of them asking him up like that and disrespecting him in front of the cameras complete injustice done. Fair play to Paddy and Bernard. At least they had the common sense to put him in. You would wonder what the hell goes through Kevin Mc stays head! Hope JD gets his all star and the man finally gets recogniton for all the workrate, time, effort and super class he brings to Kildare football and the GAA. He's an idol in his county. A complete gentleman and a joy to watch!

780324 paddy keenan on the team absolute joke another sympathy vote like early last year

Reddoctor, I presume you mean Dermot Earley, if so how can you say him getting on the all stars last year was a sympathy vote, he was the best midfielder in the country last year....And Paddy Keenan fully deserves his place on any team of the year this year. Think its sour grapes on your behalf because Kevin Hughes or no Tyrone lads made it

No phillip jordan.. cant believe that. man was immense for tyrone this year at wing half back. has to be a shoe in for an All-Star. Emmet Bolton was good but was caught napping too much. Also feel aggrieved that dermot earley didnt make it, the man has played all season with one knee and him and johnny doyle have single handedly brought geezers men to the All_ireland semi final.

I suspect that your belittling comment relating to both Paddy Keenan and Dermot Earley is down to your complete ignorance of both men ...... therefore I'm prepared to excused you on this occasion.

PS giving Paddy Keenan's man of the match performance awards this year, in addition to the other awards bestowed upon him by those people in the know, do you not think Kevin Hughes who missed the boat last year will again find it difficult to win a coveted All-Star award or do you firmly believe Hughes has a fair shout of an award this year????.

Why are a lot of Tyrone posters so bitter on this forum and sooo begrudging. Paddy Keenan is an outstanding midfielder and was well worthy of his place on Team of the Year. Only 2 cock-ups were leaving out Johnny Doyle and including Gooch Cooper. Gooch is a spectacular player but did not have a great championship this year. Johnny well deserved to be on it and must feel very aggrieved about it and rightly so.......

Sheehan for young player of the year. 19 nd gave a cracking display in teh All ireland final. What more can you say.

Gooch - on my heart and soul, he was incredible this year. Totally on fire and better than most of his seasons so far. Honestly, he was a pleasure to watch this year. Porobably won't get an Allstar because Kerry didn't make the Semi-final and I'd have no problems with that as it has happened every year to other players from other county's in the past.

Johnny Doyle - I think he probably deservs and allstar first of all because he was top scorer but also because he had such an influence on Kildares form this year. Mind you, the Gooch was top scorer last year and had a massive role in Kerry winning an All ireland and still didn't get one in 2009. So you never know.

Alan Brogan - Had player of the year won by early August in my opinion. If he does win he will be the first footballer ever to win either the POTY or Texaco POTY without his county appearing in the All ireland Final. he should be very proud of that and goes to show how good he was this year.

Goulding - Not his biggest fan but 9 points in a Final does the business as regards All Stars.

Donncha - Sorry, had a great final but was missing in action all year.

McVeigh - Yeah - deserves an Allstar for his saves agaoinst Kerry but you know so does quirke. He only conceded 3 goals all year.

Midfield - I though both Walsh and O'Connor for Cork were massively impressive all year. Destroyed Kerry in midfield on both occassions with PG only coming on later to help rescue the situation for us. Galvin of Limerick was immense but I have to admit to not seeing Louth play so missed Kennans performances.

On the wings - I though Kavanagh wa sreat all year for Kildare.

Full back - Goes to Shields without doubt. A great footballer.

Martin Clarke - Definitely gets one and would probably put him on the 40 like the Sunday Game panelists. he was fantastic all year and whoever came on here earlier and said he was overrated hasn't a notion. He is exactly what Down needed. If he had come back to any other good county team they wuld also have been pushing for an All ireland appearance.

Think the Panel got most of the dfenders right on the Sunday game.
