Sunday Game Team of the Year

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Gooch was not outstanding this year.... He shouldn't be getting his place because of his reputation. if it is that way then why not have Paul Galvin, Tomas O'Shea and Declan O'Sullivan on the team as well.
Danial Goulding deserves to be on it because of his performance on the highest stage. Gooch was not there this year and even in the games he played.. he had moments but did not dominate any game...not one game... Against Cork the first day. he scored 3 20 yard frees and one point from play... That's not dominating a game... and to not have the top scorer in the chanpionship on the team???
As for the GoalKeepers. McVeigh put in some outstanding saves yesterday. Top drawer stuff. He should be on the team..

1) McVeigh
2) P. Kelly
3) M.Shields
4) Charlie Harrison
5) P. Kissane
6) K.McKernan
7) Philip Jordan
8) P.Keenan
9) John Galvin
10) D. Hughes
11) M.Clarke
12) James Kavanagh
13) D. Goulding
14) B.Brogan
15) Johnny Doyle

Loyal2royal ur deluded with ur team selection and ur nominees for player of the year one great game doesnt make u player of the year (A.Walsh) and a couple of moments in an average season sure as hell doesnt (Cooper). Not even going to ask bout ur rational behind Brogan only a bitter meath man could exclude him this year...safe to say the house could be put on ur 15 being a mile off that named on All star nite

Aidan Walsh does not deserve to be on the team of the yr. Played well yesterday, thats it.
Midfield should be Paddy Keenan and John Galvin. I know the Treaty Men didn't go overly far, but of there was ever a man who carried a team then it was Galvin this year. Not trying to take away from McAuley, he's had a good season. Maybe I just want to see the underdog get some glory. I'd love to see Keenan and Galvin collect All-Stars. I think Keenan will definitely get one anyway. Brogan should take home footballer of the year. Clarke was a serious contender but slightly fluffed his lines yesterday

this was one of the worst teams i have ever seen by the so called pundits! Mcveigh shud be the goal keeper. And as for the midfield, im a limerick man but John Galvin surely deserves his place on this team. He played 3 outstanding games and is the best midfielder in Ireland! for how long more can they keep ignoring this man. he has no munster title, no all-ireland title and the least he deserves is an ALL -STAR. also colm cooper does not deserve this place on this team, john doyle is the man in my opinion for this position. Cooper had a very good year and at times looked the only performer, but quite simply Doyle is class. he is almost in the same league as cooper in terms of skill and desire to win. overall i would give doyle the nod!

I don't agree that Aidan Walsh only had one good game, but assuming he did, then why should Galvin get one for one good game against Kerry?

It's a disgrace that John Doyle didn't get on this team.
I don't know what the man has to do to get some recognition.
He was top scorer in 2008 and should have got an all star that year.
Now he's top scorer again and they don't even put him on this.
We all know Gooch is a super footballer, one of the best of all time but in all honesty who would have minded if he was left off it this year.
Kerry weren't even in the last 4 and lord knows they've had enough success over the past few years. Doyle definitely deserved it ahead of him.
Hopefully the people who pick the All Stars will have more sense and finally give Johnny the All Star he's long overdue

one game vs kerry! you were surely watchin the championship! He was basicially man of the match in every game, vs waterford he was emmence and he took kerry apart on his own. Cork struggled at the quilifers to overcome limerick mainly as galvin was the chief organiser and main man!! Reason enough

If fellow players pick the All Stars, I d hope JD can get his reward this year. 10 years of great service on mostly bad teams. Defo deserves one for all hes done over the years. Peter Kelly might sneak one as he was very good in the corner. Bolton will be lucky but again the competition is not fierce in that position. James Kavanagh will probably miss out and he was outstanding this year, a class player. I think John Galvin should get one as well at midfield. Cooper was superb this year as was Danny Hughes. Donnacha O Connor very good when it mattered.

It wasn't one good game, he also gave an excellent performance against Cork in the qualifiers. He has talent, leadership and determination. He would get into any of the top teams of the country. I think because he is from Limerick and they have not got to the Croke Park end of the game, he does not get the recognition that he deserves. I would also go with Paddy Keenan in midfield.

The Sunday Game team doesn't really matter its the All-Stars that count. I think wishfulthinkin was the only poster to mention Shine. Roscommon probably didn't play enough high profile games to get him in but he was as impressive as any in what we saw of him, I would say much the same about Limerick's Galvin. The reality is that Cork & Down will get 8 or 9 between them and the last 6 or 7 will be scattered around. The only absolute certainty for a Football All-Star is Brogan and he will also get player of the year.

You could nearly hear the collective jaws of every poster on HS drop when the Gooch was put up on the screen!!

........What a joke!!

Pandering to Kerry!

By the way, I couldnt care less if no dublin man ever got an award of any type like this, because the whole awards thing is a farce!!.....The Gooch thing just proved it!!

779138 Gooch should always make the team of the year in my opinion, if he shows decent form for the season in question. In 2010, he was in very good consistent form I believe, and fully deserves an All-Star. I'd rate Cooper the best forward in the country, by a distance.

So he only has to be decent to get on the team and everyone else has to be outstanding? Just because you suspect he has more latent talent in him than anyone else? That's wrong on so many levels.
