Sunday Game Team of the Year

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

i personally think the abuse about gooch being on team of the year is rediculous. i totally agree johnny doyle is going to get an all star, btu as a kerry fan, gooch was on absolute fire this year compared to last year, both games against cork he was outstanding as he was to against down, to be honest the rest oft he lads ont he team kind of let him down the year, as good as brogan is, gooch is every bit as good, gooch is without doubt the best forward in the country. top scorer in lats years championship, didnt get an all star and to an extent deservedly so because he wasnt having a good season by his own high standards but this year he was one of the brite sparks in a lacklustre kerry outfit. he wins his own possesion, is unselfish can score with both feet. before yesterdays final how many people would have included goulding in their top 15 for the year? i dont think gooch deserves this much abuse. in truth he personally had a fantastic season!

Dont agree Gooch doesnt deserve an All Star, dont think hes a token gesture at all...
He was excellent in the games he played, lets not forget Kerry won Munster & got to the last 8.
Its not as if the Gooch hasnt played since June..

Quirke
Kelly Shields P.Mc Mahon
Kissane McKernan Bolton
Keenan M.D. McAuley
Hughes Clarke Kelly
Goulding B.Brogan Copper

Some strange ones here I'd say. No Galvin in Midfield, an unreal player. No Johnny Doyle, a very consistant leader and scorer. Would have gone with McVeigh or Cluxton myself. Also thought Benny Coulter at least deserves an All Star and probalby will get one.

I would also like to thank Anthony Tohill for awarding us the Leinster Title. Where do I pick up my medal? RTE Carpark.

If all Johnny Doyle did for the year was that fetch from the last Down kickout in the semi he deserved it. On top of that he had a savage year!

Had to be McVeigh in goals for me, some great saves against Kerry and again yesterday. For me Quirke could have cost Cork their All Ireland with a bazarre kick out against Limerick that lead to the game going to extra time and his short kick outs also cost Cork vital scores against Kerry, fully entitled to his All Ireland but not number 1 on team of the year for me. Galvin probably deserving of a position although to be fair he does face some stiff competition, Kavanagh from Kildare should also be in the running for a wing forward spot come the all stars, was key to their progression this year

why not the gooch on the team im surprised theres not more after all we won munster and beat cork too and if all those players not missing v down we could be going for 3 in a row cause i doubt if cork would have beaten kerry yesterday with all the trouble they had to beat an overated down team. thought cooper had a great year by the way.

It's a complet insult to John Galvin to rank him behind MD McCauley; and for his overall contribution over the year, Johnny Doyle should be ahead of either Daniel Goulding or Colm Cooper.

Very surprised J Galvin (Limerick) and Harrison and Kelly (Sligo) not on the team.

To me Gooch does deserve his place on the team. He is a genius and he was outstanding this year. Not his fault some of the other Kerry players did not play as well as they normally do. My team:

1) McVeigh (Down)
2) Kelly (Kildare)
3) Shields (Cork)
4) Philly McMahon (Dublin)
5) Kissane (Cork)
6) Mckernan (Down)
7) Bolton (Kildare)
8) Keenan (Louth)
9) Galvin (Limerick)
10) Hughes (Down)
11) Clarke (Down)
12) Kelly (Cork)
13) Gooch (Kerry)
14) Brogan (Dublin)
15) Doyle (Kildare)

The only sight of genius ye've ever seen in Limerick has been with an oval ball. You wouldnt have a clue what to look for in gaelic football.

That's fair arrogant!!!! did anyone say the same to you when you were posting on a hurling thread.... just because your not from a traditional hueling or football county dosen't mean an opinion should be disgarded.

What did Benny Coulter score this summer? How many games did he play?

Gooch should always make the team of the year in my opinion, if he shows decent form for the season in question. In 2010, he was in very good consistent form I believe, and fully deserves an All-Star. I'd rate Cooper the best forward in the country, by a distance.

Gooch had a great year and deserves his spot, he was unreal against Cork and Limerick. Id have Doyle in front of Kelly on the team, Kelly had a good year, Doyle had an outstanding year, Galvin in front of McCauley for me, Ray Carey instead of McMahon

As a limerick man(biased i know), John Galvin has surely this year done enough to earn himself his first all-star.MD McCauley had a good year but is a good way behind Galvin. The man nearly beat Kerry and Cork on his own for god sake. If Galvin was a Kerry man they would be lifting Sam yesterday. Johnny Doyle should certainly wear 13 and Gooch should certainly wear 15 (brilliant all year. Nearly beat down on his own in 1.4 final).

Ironically enough, one LiamWalkinstown, has been up in arms over Gooch's selection in teams like these before.

If anybody wants to debate Bernard Brogan's non-selection in my team, then bring it.

Very surprised that McMahon and McAuley were named.

Both are young and have plenty of potential but I don't think that there performances were team of the year or All Star standard.

Dublin had one player who rose above average this summer.
