All Ireland tickets on Ebay

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think any fans selling their ticket to a fellow GAA Fan at a profit are a disgrace. Even worse are fans selling their tickets to ticket touts and I've seen it happen. I have got involved in a few scrapes with guys I've seen doing it over the years. Normally I would not buy a ticket at black-market prices even though I can remember 2 occassions on which I did. One was in 1984 for the Centenary Final in Thurles when I wanted 1 for my Father and with all the hype before the game bought one from a County Tipperary GAA Club Member, ironically that year you couldn't give away a ticket on the day of the match. I also paid over the odds for a Canal end ticket for the Cork/Meath game the year we won the double, that was for my son. At the moment I still don't have a ticket for Sunday the Club (in Tipperary) where I normally get one swapped their football allocation with a Club in Cork for hurling tickets. So maybe next Sunday will be No. 3 but I haven't yet made a final decision on whether to travel without a ticket. Finally I'm not in the least surprised to read that Pomeroy Plunkett sees nothing wrong in selling your ticket for profit.

775143 If someone forks out money for a ticket they own it and can do whatever they want with it, be that using it themselves or selling it on. I see no problem whatsoever, it's the individual's property and is no different to selling a TV on ebay

So why it touting illegal?

Well my crisis is over for this year, I've got my ticket. As I had asked a few lads to look out for me, there is a possibility another one or two could be left somewhere for me on Sat night or Sun morning. If they are I can assure all they will as always be given to genuine supporters at face value.

774995 I find it disgusting that All Ireland tickets are currently being sold on ebay for nearly 4 times their face value. One set of tickets on sale for £550 and the seller is from Armagh. Surley the GAA should make it a priority to stop these people from getting tickets in the future to prevent this happening. I know how sick to the bone people from my county feel about this happening, true gaels who are lucky enough to get tickets should not seek finacial gain from selling them. What does anyone else think ?

What is a True Gael?

typical in the gaa.. You have the fan at every match all year and then the blow in get a ticket before the die hard for the all ireland final.. about time a loyality system was put in place in the county boards, to the best of my knowledge, there isnt one in place around ireland. They have it for the England national team for world cups, 1st choice goes to the fan who has been at the most quailifing games and so on.. something similar in the GAA would be handy

Not obsessed with you PP but quite pleased in fact to read that you would see nothing immoral in selling your ticket on E-Bay. It confirms what I have always thought about you.

How many times? The season ticket system is exactly this. May not be right for everyone but is a way to guarentee a ticket to those who have gone to the matches all year.

A few weeks ago I saw 2 X AI ticket go EBay for £5,OOO-i "watched" them for about a day and a half before the auction closed. If I recall correctly it was a seller in London. I d'ont believe in prinicpal of selling tickets over face value. However, I would love to experience the thrill of croke park on AI day. Also, I wonder if I could turn down so much money when it could take me travelling etc. Maybe my principals are susceptible to corruption but the GAA should take measures to prevent this happening.

there is a loyalty scheme in place, if you attend 60% of your counties league games and tehy get to teh final you are guaranteed a ticket, you get a season ticket and have it scanned at all teh games you go to, my pal from Down got his AI ticket this way. Generally I find if you are a true fan and have been going to the games you always manage to get a ticket.

The simple truth is that aren't that many REAL fans that everyone on here keeps talking about. GAA in general is poorly supported. How many Down or Cork fans have actually seen all their games in this years championship. A few hundred maybe?, certainly not in the thousands

Even some the fans that went to the quarters\semi's jumped on board at a late stage and no doubt these one or two trips to Dublin makes them a 'real fan '
and they'll be screaming for tickets. no where to be seen in the early rounds\qualifiers though!

I agree there should be a loyalty\ticket stub scheme for those who actually are real fans and did attend the 'sparsely' attended qualifiers. I know soccer does a lot which is fair enough.

BTW, i'm not having a go at Down\Cork as it woud be the same for whoever was in the final. Obviously the final is going to be a sell out but the jump in the attendance ratio between qualifiers and the final in our sport is ridiculous ( a few thousand on hand to 82,000 on the other)

As someone said earlier ' what is a true fan? '

In 2008 a member of the tyrone panel was caught selling tickets for the all-ireland final and tickets for the gala after!!! a member of the county board put in fake bids and met with him in omagh to pay for them, when he met the player all his tikets were taken off him!!!

This is not just to be different but honestly, if somebody has found a legal way to make a tidy profit then so-bloody-what. Ive never done it myself and couldn't really be bother to do it either but the lad has put a few extra shillings in his pocket during very hard times and your tearing him down for doing it, come on! Nobody is forced into buying these tickets either, its all by choice my friends so accept it, get over it and move on.
