774058 Patrique. I actually agree with you, however, big Ian is not protesting for those reasons. He is peotesting because he is a sectairian biggot!!
I think he would feel at home here than.
Now Wise Guy, I believe you belong to what I call the "protestant mosaic", a group of hundreds of religions which Catholics see as one, and surely you can see the hypocrisy of those shouting the odds about big OIan and some of their usual posts.
People in glass houses and all that....

Patrique, you are mistaken.
I have a good understanding of the Protestant religion and its many Churches and their beliefs. I am not a biggot and I don't for one minute believe that all Protestants hate Catholics. But its people like Ian Paisley who stir up trouble and hatered and will do and say anything to be in the spotlight and win votes and ultimatly keep themselves in jobs. David Irvine's views on this in "Voices from the grave" are very intresting! I don't think even big Ian even believes all the crap that comes out of his own mouth, but its said to brainwash "his people".
But back to my post, I did not even mention Protestants and you attack me for being a protestant mosaic. Where did I question which church anyone belongs to? How do you even know I am a Catholic?
I am only pointing out that Ian Paisley is not protesting about Pope's visit because of the goings on in the Cathoilc Church but because he is anti-Catholic!
As well as that the moderator for the Presbyterian Church says he will not shakes hands with the Pope because there are troubling issues! How are they any of his business! You would think to listen to them that the Protestant Churches have never done anything wrong, not to defend the actions of certain Priests and Bishops, but they where and are every bit as bad!!

Wiseguy, I KNOW you are not a bigot. A thousand apologies if you even thought I was saying that.
I value your posts.
Sorry again.

Wise Guy,,
This is what I posted earlier:
Now Wise Guy, I believe you belong to what I call the "protestant mosaic", a group of hundreds of religions which Catholics see as one, and surely you can see the hypocrisy of those shouting the odds about big Ian and some of their usual posts.

In that I was suggesting that you are NON catholic as I seem to recall you saying that once, although the old memory could be playing tricks.
The rest simpoly accuses many Catholics of being sectarian by "lumping" all the various protestant religions into one. No onme ever says he is a presbyterian or a methodist, the just say protestant.,
And they have the effrontry to label oters as sectarian.
The comment about glass houses refers to those types, not you.

774086 The trip costs millions when we are making public sector cuts. So instead of having a hospital or a school we have the pope
Patrique the Pope's trip is expected to cost in and around the region of £12 million, the vatican are apparently covering over £10 million of this expense themselves so your point is not entirely valid.
Furthermore given that catholics have been discriminated against in the United Kingdom for a couple of hundred years I think the gesture of incurring the rest of the expense for inviting the Pope over is worth making.
Would you not agree?

The trip is costing the tax payer 12 million, with more for security, circa 1 million. That is not covered by the Vatican.
And because the act of Succession wrongly discriminates against catholics in the UK I cannot see how inviting the pope will change that.
Thousands of republicans in the UK are already trying to change that by removing the monarchy, and thousands more want the law changed so that the monarch can be a catholic.
Personally as a republican who regrets that Cromwell's accomplishment was over turned, I am in favour of removing the monarchy.
I don't think the pope has a view on it.

Patrique you may be right. However the Pope, as head of the Catholic church, coming to the UK will surely raise the Succession Act debate again to some extent. It's absolutely criminal that this Act remains in place.
Unfortunately I think the monarchy will remain for a long time despite your wishes, having said that it was not the monarchy who once upon a time banned Christmas as i'm sure you're aware!!

775230 Why is everyone here slating the pope? It's not his fault people were sexually abused. I don't think its right to blame him.
In fact he was responsible for some sexual abuse as he allowed known abusers to remain free by moving them and covering up instead of reporting their crimes to the police. When all this started to come out in the 70 I remember they came out with the line that the abusers were sick men and should be forgiven and prayed for. If that is the case then the people that covered up could be described as being more culpable for the abuse in that they the were not sick. The bishops and the pope keep telling us what a heinous crime child rape is, but they avoid us what a heinous crime covering it up is. I wonder why?
