as a follower and frequent watcher of aussie rules on tele, i think the aussie squad shows how this competition is viewed over there, very few top players coming over and 16 newcomer's to the game says it all.

What is the point in keeping this mickey mouse competition going. The Aussie's are obviously not taking it seriously, and the absense of high-profile players from their team would make me think that we are in for another bloodbath (one where the Irish will get destroyed as per usual).
I don't see any gain in this competition.

i agree 100%, except i think the irish lads should be good enough to beat them over here, considering the best aussie boys are staying at home and they have 16 newcomers to the series

its still a good aussie side, anyway the big names wouldnt necessarily be suited to this game. this is still a good side.

its not a good aussie side, its a side sent over to just make up the numbers and keep some ''interest'' in it, the AFL Player stats for this year prove that, the only reason it's still going is so the gaa will get big crowds and make money and thats all that matters at the end of the day.

I watch Aussie Rules and they have bought some absolute superstars with them.

* Eddie Betts (Carlton)
* Dustin Fletcher (Essendon)
* Tyson Goldsack (Collingwood)
* Adam Goodes (Sydney Swans)
* Brad Green (Melbourne)
* Kieran Jack (Sydney Swans)
* Jarrad McVeigh (Sydney Swans)

These guys are some of the best players in the league. People complain that they don't bring their best players, but not a word is said on our end when the likes of Colm Cooper, Tomas O'Se or Michael Murphy don't take part. These are some of the finest gaelic footballers going, yet they wouldn't really be suited to this. The fact that the best player in the league, Gary Ablett isn't coming is disappointing, but the guy has just transferred to a new team and wants to get set up there. It's not hard to understand. I don't understand why so many people are against it. When it is played in the correct manner; hard, fair, fast, with big hits and a little bit of agro, that you would see in any football or hurling match, then it's a fantastic game. No one has come up with a better way of exposing our game to an international audience. The players want to play it and fans want to see it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

As an avid AFL supporter, I can tell you that the Aussie Squad is perhaps the strongest in recent memory. The likes of Dangerfield, Goodes, Swan, Gilbert, Boyd, Cross and Fletcher are particularly adapt to the round ball. Gary Ablett is the only notable absentee. If Australia train hard enough and manage to break even in the 1st test, I can guarantee you they should be able to wipe Ireland off the pitch in the 2nd test. Granted it hasnt acheived major news status here in Melbourne but it is still a very good squad, with these players specifically for the round ball. Remember, the last series was back in 2008, so 16 newcomers is no real surprise. The Aussies did the same thing in 2005 and made Ireland look like amateurs (excuse the pun...)

My prediction would be Ireland to sneak home in the first test at Limerick and then Australia with an aggregate win at Croke Park. It should be a close series!

I agree it's a strong Aussie squad. Might not have all the big-name players but has players that are suited to the game

I hope there's a massive row and this daft concept is consigned to the dustbin for good.
Can't believe county finals are being moved to accommodate this guff.

I dont think the Aussies have anything to be proud of from 2005

I agree though, it IS a strong squad. People are saying Ablett is a big loss but he did make himself available - he just wasn't picked. Mick Malthouse knows what he's doing now, having had the experience of 2008.

Have to laugh at some of the comments here, as per usual the Irish thinking they know best and wanting to be that news-breaking extraordinar...First of all Gary Ablett withdrew himself from the job because he has stated that with his move to the Gold Coast, he needs to spend the time looking for a new house and is keen to start working with the young list that is at Gold Coast....funny how everyone on here thinks Malthouse left him out but thats just typical Irishness from everyone speaking before they know the truth....and whats this nonsnence that the team is full of superstars, are you having a laugh Patrick Armagh????
Betts, Goldsack, McVeigh, Varcoe are not superstars...would you even know who these people were if u seen them in the street....any real AFL fans on this board will know one of the main reasons why this squad has been picked and I cant think there be any but as to why some of the more recognisable players have not put there hand up.....none of this squad has been reported in the past season but as you are all such AFL experts I will expect you all know what REPORTED means in AFL terms and you can look behind the lines but I'm not gonna bother explaining that...before anyone starts I am Irish but will be going for the Aussies and cant wait to take my seat at Croke Park to see the Aussies play the Irish off the park and listen to the wonderfully knowledgeable Irish people beside me thinking they are smarter than the person beside them!!!!!!!!!!!

Another reason why this should be dropped.
It forces us to have contact with Australians.
