Is this thread appropriate for the main board?

Surely it should be on the Non-GAA forum

Me ****.

to Cavan1947 i don't believe it will be an irish walkover, traditionally the Aussies have a stronger touring squad for obvious reasons and the big news in Oz is that their top superstar player Gary Ablett has opted to play for the first time with more big names to follow. Also the Aussies have a good record(results wise) on irish soil.

The GAA is pleased to confirm the Irish Daily Mail as International Rules Series sponsors and TG4 as the sponsors of the Irish team.

In addition, TG4 will broadcast the two games live and RTÉ will have the radio rights and the rights to a television highlights package.

Ireland face Australia in Páirc na nGael, Limerick on October 23 and seven days later the second test takes place at Croke Park. Both games will be played under lights.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Criostóir Ó Cuana welcomed today's announcement and acknowledged the valued support of both partners.

He said: "The International Rules Series makes a welcome return to our calendar this year and the staging of the first game in Limerick brings an added dimension to the 2010 series.

"Our players are strong supporters of this series and GAA supporters have voted with their feet when comes to attending the games. "We look forward to welcoming the Australian team to Ireland and wish Anthony Tohill and his team every success.

There seems to be some of connection with the GAA.

Kennelly of course!! and i would say that Tommy Walsh should be included plus Marty clarke and
I think that Seanie johnston should be given a run along side Ronan Flanagan.

Has no-one mentioned Donie Shine?

a lot of people naming their preferred Staring 15 or full-foward line - don't forget that starting doesn't really matter when you can make ten changes per quarter.

In case any were wondering, the AFL Grand Final between Collingwood and St.Kilda was a draw, so the Aussie side will not be announced this coming Thursday, as there will be a replay of the game this Saturday arvo instead. Team will be announced in about 9-10 days time.

Be warned - The Aussie team will have some very good talent on display...they will be hard to beat!

Paddy Keenan, Eamonn McAuley (Louth), Leighton Glynn, Ciaran Hyland (Wicklow), Brendan Murphy (Carlow), Colm Begley, Donie Kingston (Laois), Stephen Cluxton, Bernard Brogan, Alan Brogan, Rory O'Carroll, Michael Darragh Macauley (Dublin),Kevin Reilly (Meath), Ciarán McKeever, Stevie McDonnell (Armagh) Paul Finlay (Monaghan) ,Gareth Bradshaw (Galway) Joe & Justin McMahon (Tyrone) Rob Kelly, Peter Kelly, Hughie Lynch, James Kavanagh, Emmet Bolton (Kildare), Niall McNamee (Offally) Johnny McCarthy, John Galvin(Limerick)

I'm sure you could add the likes of Graham Canty, Michael Shields, Eoin Cadogan, Alan Quirke, Pearse O'Neill, Paul Kerrigan, Paul Galvin, Ciaran Donaghy, Tadgh Kennelly, Tommy Walsh, Pearce Hanley, Marty Clarke, Brendan Coulter, Brendan McVeigh, Dan Gordon, Kevin Dyas and Sean Cavanagh to the list of players above. Apparently Setanta o'hAilpin will not be available for the series which is surprising. I would have liked to see him play. The word is that the Aussies are bringing their big guns over, with the likes of Gary Ablett and Travis Varcoe all declaring themselves available.

I know that there are plenty of people who don't like it, but I'm not one of them. I'm a huge fan of it and when it is played in the right manner it's a great game. The players want it and so do the fans. It gives players an international outlet that would not be otherwise available. And even though it isn't gaelic football they are playing, it still promotes the GAA to a worldwide audience whether people like it or not. The future of the games is dependent on a couple of key factors. One team cannot be too dominant, as interest stems from games being close affairs with both sides having a good chance of winning.

And people may not like to admit it, but the game is so much better when there is a bit of needle to it. I'm not talking about the complete and utter butchery that went on a few years ago, but more like the competitive edge that you see in both codes, when tempers do indeed sometimes flair up. It adds to the games intensity and the players will to win, which makes it a better game. If Cork are playing Kilkenny in the hurling and before the ball is thrown in, there is a bit of physical stuff going on, no one is complaining about it. There is nothing wrong with this in International Rules either just as long as it doesn't spill out into full on violence like it did a few years ago. I went to the series in 2003 and 2005 in Dublin and there was a good bit of tension in the air and it made from one hell of a competition. The roar that went around Croke Park after the scuffle Ciaran McDonald was involved in was louder than anything I've ever heard at a gaelic match and the game turned into a classic. During the last series, both teams were on their best behaviour and rightly so. But the game lack the correct amount of physical intensity that it deserves. It was pretty obvious that the players didn't want to do something that could cause the series to be pulled.

As I said, I'm looking forward to this years series and think that whenever the right balance is struck, there is so much to be enjoyed about the game, not least the fact that the gaelic players that we all support are representing the country and game we all love.
