what does it matter about the first tackle and our middle quarter...the game was rubbish and as a concept it's dead in the water....i would have loved to have seen the gooch up against bryan cullen in a leinster munster clash or mortimer taking on justin mcmahon in a connacht ulster clash under lights in croke park,...bring back the inter-provincials..its better than this rubbish mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 23/10/2010 21:50:59 802556 Link 0 |

Somebody needs to go out next week and hit an Aussie a dig in the first minute....step forward Tadgh Kennelly. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9829 - 23/10/2010 21:58:27 802565 Link 0 |
Folks…step back a moment the true calibre of the game is one discussion, but more significantly and worrying is the shambles witnessed last night bears a true reflection of where Gaelic football is currently at the moment. The Aussies were far superior and more comfortable kicking and fielding the round football than our supposable elite footballers who are kicking the dam thing since they were 3 years of age! Has to be said Ireland were so poor. I watched the first two quarters and switched over to x factor! A bunch of wimps the Ireland players were portrayed as forever playing the ball on the ground soccer style, there shooting was terrible, obviously Ireland have the advantage in this area with the round ball but the Aussies shooting were better but they missed a few real easy ones which could have seen them more in the lead. And from what I seen the Irish were more agressive, not really channeled than the Austrailians. Do people agree? tullyframerover (Down) - Posts: 276 - 24/10/2010 09:30:12 802575 Link 0 |
Strange as it may seem, the aussies were better at playing gaelic than the Irish team. They were more comfortable with the ball, fielded better, shooting was better, & tactically they got it right. Ireland are lucky not to be further behind on the scoreboard. They played poor but are still in touch. blu (Down) - Posts: 1240 - 24/10/2010 10:03:46 802581 Link 0 |
I think we kept changing players to much, the lads didn't get the chance to settle into the game Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1711 - 24/10/2010 13:03:12 802626 Link 0 |
Tohill made a bags of it with soccer tactics and the players themselves pulled it out of the fire by playing gaelic football. The irish were woeful and can only improve in the next game. Floops (Dublin) - Posts: 1623 - 24/10/2010 13:49:21 802642 Link 0 |
Ireland's defence was lacking; the Irish team needed a leader, reckon Tohill should have GALVINISED the team.........pity he thought he would be wasting Paul Galvins time by asking him to take part in the trials; pity too, John Galvin is injured-both these Galvins are the types of players who can lead. Brogan though, a class act, well deserving his footballer of the year! kerrykerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1779 - 24/10/2010 14:07:58 802644 Link 0 |
Its an awful mongrel of a game. Think with the way emigration is back in fashion, lets develop Gaelic and hurling abroad and get the international games from that. bananapublican (Leitrim) - Posts: 878 - 24/10/2010 14:15:33 802653 Link 0 |
why wer the messing around with the ball.. they wer been stupid makin silly mistakes.. playing soccer for most of it.. never mind the comeback we should of been all over them.. i found it very hard to watch.. toprow2010 (Kildare) - Posts: 214 - 24/10/2010 14:25:33 802656 Link 0 |
Not sure what the Irish referee's name is (coldrick maybe?) but I thought he was poor. No knowledge or appreciation of the tackle or physical contact of Aussie Rules. Almost every free-kick given for incorrect tackling were wrong. He even gave a free-kick against an Australian for a handpass with open hand- the handball in Aussie Rules has always been with the fist, they never use open hand and didnt on this occasion either. You could see the puzzled look on each Australians face after he blew them for incorrect tackling. Hopefully a different refereeing representative for next week. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2581 - 24/10/2010 14:33:09 802660 Link 0 |

You'd wonder at the intelligence of people that think the Australians would beat us at gaelic football. Coylers Elbow (Meath) - Posts: 1075 - 24/10/2010 15:40:37 802682 Link 0 |

Looks to me that we were just very flat and scared of the tackle, no decent ball going into the forwards... I think Brogan got the ball passed to him twice, we need to be looking for marks nice and close to the goal.. all in all.. Ireland were very poor and we made the Aussies look far better than they actually are! jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 24/10/2010 16:23:12 802716 Link 0 |
