Plenty of things to do in Amsterdam if you can't see the game.

was at the ucc/cit game tonight
the austrailians are huge men especially the goalkeeper..he is huge
anyway the ucc/cit team could have played alot better..they had a ridiculas amount of stray passes and at times played the handpass like the cork footballers
while the aussies were just kick and run..very effective..the aussies look very good and ireland have alot on their plate

While i think TG4 is a great station and they cover the gaelic fairly well in the summer it is still a bit frustrating having to listen to the commentry in irish, now i'm not saying TG4 should have it in english as that would go against the whole idea of having an irish language station i just think rte should be covering the series, it feels like a demotion for the series having it covered in a language that like it or not well over half the population don't understand. I know there is always the option of having the tv turned down and radio on but there is always a delay and it you will know what happens before you hear it.

As for tonights result, what happened? i thought they were putting out a decent enough team.

twas a decent team but it was a mixture between the 2 colleges so there was bound to be sloppyness
what happened....i think that the austrailians were just miles fitter
if ucc/cit ran they easily ran with them and closed down well
if cit/ucc hit long ball the aussies sweeped up
the aussies were physically stronger and they were big men
i had to look for ciaran sheehan on the field tonight...i never thought id have to do that as he always stands out

The 105 points i can understand. But restricting the UCC/CIT lads to 12 is seriously impressive.

International Rules Strongest 15

Just wondering what everyone would pick as their best possible 15 for Sunday.
Obviously with so many interchanges it's very much a squad game but the core 15 I'd be building the team around is as follows:
1. Cluxton 2. C.Begley 3. F.Hanley 4. B.Donaghy 5. G.Canty 6. K.McKernan 7. M.Clarke 8. P.Keenan 9. T.Kennelly 10. L.Glynn 11. S.Cavanagh 12. J.Kavanagh 13. S.McDonnell 14. T.Walsh 15. B.Brogan
Michael Murphy should be there or thereabouts in the forwards also. If Canty is not fit I would probably move Brendan Murphy in there instead. It's important we have backs who are familiar with the Aussie Rules tackle.

There's a couple of 'Irish' bars there, but you'll be lucky if there's electricity let alone a TV. Rumdoodles is a decent bar and has a generator I think

Con Cavan surely your life is not that sad that you would be running around Amsterdam with tears in your eyes because you could not see the International Rules, All Ireland Final maybe, but the International Rules

Hardly, but it's matter of opinion anyway. I take it you'll be in some dank bar in Tuam drinking fat frogs and setting the world to rights, hmm?

Word from the Aussie camp is that the gloves are off and revenge is in the air for the cruel treatment of an innocent kangeroo by Irish idiots.

UCC/CIT = an absolute disgrace! Folks this is really starting to become embarasssing we are getting hammered at our own sport - its a joke- im convinced if the aussies got a fair crack at the whip i.e. one game played with their ball (which would only be fair) they would put about 400 points on any irish selection. this is embarassing all round it really is- people who dont even play gaelic football are remarkably better than us at it

Mighty. Will be totally switched off from things Ireland for a few weeks. Although i believe communications have developed a bit in Annapurna recently. Last time I was there The Maoists were taking out anything with a wire attached. Rumdoodles is something to aim for along the trail for sure, well a few beers anyway. the steak tend to be on the Doc Marten side. Keep the peace.

Why should we play with their ball. It is COMPROMISE Rules, and playing with a round ball is a compromise to the tacking, behinds, longer runs without soloing and other things that are more part of the Aussie game. They are professional athletes who can adapt to a round ball quicker than gaelic players would adapt to an oval. How you would expect gaelic players to play with an oval is beyond me, it would be, like you said, a 400 points difference. That is a nonsensical claim

800888 Ollie,

Too true, and best mixed grill in Ireland in it !!

Compromise and concensus seems to be all the rage at the moment lads. How about playing with a round ball with a point at one end, I saw one in Toys "r'Us

The compromise rules game is a very poor spectacle, in my opinion. The capacity to slow the game to a standstill calling "marks", is not very spectator friendly. The Aussie kicking at goal does have some comedic value on occasions, it has to be said. When the Aussies up the athleticism & physicality, we can't match them. When they don't, we make them look a bit silly with our "football skills". I wouldn't take the outcome of it very seriously.

alrigh longford lad- if we go rind of the takle (which is just northern football anyways) and used their ball wouldnt that be a compromise too and how would we fair- folks kid yourselves all ye want this is gaelic football and we are shocking at it. i not sure the aussie lads would see it as easy to adapt to a round ball - everything is in the irish lad favour and to be honest your remars just states than any professional sportanman should be better than the irish at gaelic football- we are an absolute disgrace and it is completely embarassing. imagine we are not even the best at a sport we are the only ones that play- says it all really. it gaelic football we should be beating the aussie by 100 points a game if we were any good at our national sport. where is the argument (pure drivel argument) that gaa players train as much as professionals that we hear all the time- obviously not!
