Tipperary Showboating

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Does any body else find the constant showboating by the Tipperary hurlers tiresome by this stage.

The waving of clinched fists in the air, then it progressed to Eoin Kelly and co. pointing their figures to the temples indicating how intelligent they are. Now they have gone one better by proclaiming they are on their own "drive for five".

I do congratulate Tipp but they'd want to be a bit more humble on and off the field. KK hurlers and Brian Cody in fairness always played down the hype for 3, 4 and 5 in a row but the Tipp boys with their one All-Ireland in 9 years are now going to dominate the game for the foreseeable future.

You expect this attitude from a sunshine supporter but not from intercounty hurlers.

Just reflects the attitude that some on here have shown over the past few weeks.

It has been two days since they won the All-Ireland.

This begrudgery usually doesn't start until the start of next season!!

Think you've posted a thread like this before.... when was the showboating.

The temple thing is to think and keep their head and what's wrong with a captain encouraging their players. There was a bit of show boating from the young lads in the last few year but their young you'd expect that their maturing now!!

Where was all the hype in the build up to this match from tipp...it was all about the 5 in a row and shefflins injury. If anything tipp flew under the radar which was good to see there was too much paper talk before the cork game and too much hype and we got beaten a lesson learned the hard way.... I think that cork match mentally focused the tipp team and the galway match honed their hurling (no disrepect to offaly or wexford they weren't at their best against tipp). They are humble off the field they players made time for the fans in the burlington sunday night and in the celebrations on monday... can you give an example of not being humble off the field??

But when you get to the top you'll always have the knockers.... people used to have a go at kilkenny for being cynical people have a go at tipp for "showboating"...

Its called passion Bull, and I dont mind seeing it in a final. if they were doing it in a league game in march i might say something else.
And tapping their head means "concentrate".

All-Ireland in 9 years...

or 2 in 10 (the same amount as cork)... still not a great tally but why focus on 9 years wind up merchant i think!!

Whats that got to do with Tipp hurlers? The amount of motivation, concentration and energy needed to compete with this Kilkenny team is immense, the players constantly need to gee themselves up, keep themselves pumped and motivated, its not done to show off. And given our tendency to drift out of matches over the last couple of years, the finger tapping to the temples was more to do with trying to keep each other focused than anything else, Eoin's a fantastic captain, he's been consistently motivating the young guys around him, and its paid dividends. It may look a bit over the top, but if you want to beat a team like Kilkenny, who've raised the bar for every aspect of the game so high (way beyond what can be expected for amateur athletes), you need to harvest every ounce of available motivation. And the players are more than humble off the pitch, very approachable, they're a credit to the county.

sure shefflin did the exactly the same thing in the final last year pointin to their heads is not a sign of intelligence its a signal to the other lads to tell them to keep their heads...Tipps performance at the weekend deserves nothing but praise

Tipp players had every right to "showboat". They deserved that great win on Sunday. Can't believe some one started this thread complaining about Tipp, just 2 days after winning a fantastic final.

Ah come on The bull; they are on a high, they just won the AI and in style against ,if not the best hurling team of all that was only two days ago! Tiresome, no way; they are a joy to watch both during the game and afterwards. Yet again, I will say, well done Tipp and why shouldn't it be their bid for their own 5-in-a-row.

Bull, that post seems very laced with begrudgery of your own.

Waving their fists in the air? A perfectly run of the mill, triumphant gesture when a hurler scores, they all do it no matter what county they're from

Pointing at their temples? Obviously a sign of celebration, a gesture of comradrey, it would seem that those players had practiced those plays on the training pitch and it worked in Croke Park. What's wrong with saluting each other for it?

And who on earth from Tipp has declared that they are now going on a 'Drive for 5'?

In every county there are people and fans who shoot their mouth off when they win, deal with it. Similarly in every county, there are people who will boo the opposition - something I don't like and have never done but I deal with it

If Cork beat Down in the football final and the players thrust their fists in the air, will you consider them to be showboating? Thought not.

Leave Tipp alone and let them enjoy their win as they will to you if you win the football

If you want a showboat ala soccer am have a look at the high-lights when brendan maher flicked the ball over one tackler while also being tackled by another kilkenny player and then dish off a perfect pass..... better than anything you'd see any soccer player doing...took strenght skill and determination.

but you choose to take a negative pop only two days after the game... good to see your in the minority of cork supporters!!!

Yeah, the showboating was awful. Did you see the way he lifted the cup up the crowd? It was almost like he was trying to show it off after he'd won it. Kilkenny would have just shook hands with the president and went home.

Pointing their fingers at their temples obviously means to concentrate. Not to over complicate things just because you are ahead. They learnt their lessons from last year when they lost their concentration when ahead and let in a few goals. It is obviously something they worked on this year and pointing to their temples is just for them to keep their team mates on their toes and not let their guard down and start celebrating too early. If anything they should be congratulated for the way they came back from their beating last year, and learning from it, they comprehensively beat (probably) the best team of all time. If they had a few things that got them through that, then what of it.
