Following yesturdays incident, I think throwing a hurl at an opponent should warrant a red card. setanta0 (Louth) - Posts: 112 - 06/09/2010 12:04:47 766220 Link 0 |
Yep, have to agree with you on that one. And a hefty ban to go with it as well. Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 06/09/2010 12:10:38 766226 Link 0 |
No, its not that dangerous to be quite honest. bosch (Derry) - Posts: 873 - 06/09/2010 12:28:50 766247 Link 0 |
OK bosch but if someone does throw a hurl head high its still not acceptable. I wouldn't make throwing the hurl an automatic red card , I would leave it to the discretion of the Ref. but I could certainly envisage that it many cases it would be a red card. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 06/09/2010 12:33:43 766253 Link 0 |
If it was to be deliberately thrown at a player, to hit them, then yes. Otherwise no, a yellow card would be sufficient enough. Yesterday we seen a hurl thrown to put the attacking player off, not to hit him. MourneArmy (Down) - Posts: 1787 - 06/09/2010 12:40:26 766264 Link 0 |
A disgraceful act of cowardice, of course it should be a red card. Whats the difference between throwing a hurl at someones head and throwing a punch? Scruffy2Donut (Cavan) - Posts: 1112 - 06/09/2010 12:42:03 766266 Link 0 |
It would be a grey area if iut is our not i think. Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 06/09/2010 12:42:15 766268 Link 0 |

Not that dangerous Bosch? Well if you fancy sticking on a helmet I'll gladly throw hurls at you all day and see if you change your mind. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 06/09/2010 12:49:47 766283 Link 0 |
There should be some ban for it, certainly not the first time a KK player has done it either. Tommy Walsh did it in the league final last year I remember....its a act of a player who knows their team is beaten. Flanders (Galway) - Posts: 604 - 06/09/2010 12:51:15 766286 Link 0 |
If you throw a punch in a match, you would expect a red card. Why should throwing the hurl be any different? Tongo (UK) - Posts: 1795 - 06/09/2010 12:51:17 766287 Link 0 |
What would the sanction have been if the flying hurley blocked the ball? Penalty, I presume? Soceondly, is throwing a hurley not "striking or attempting to strike" which could merit a straight red? football first (None) - Posts: 1259 - 06/09/2010 12:54:38 766290 Link 0 |
I agree, I think it should be a straight red. men_of_49 (Meath) - Posts: 2015 - 06/09/2010 12:58:45 766297 Link 0 |
well suppose football first it is striking as i never really thought it that way Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 06/09/2010 13:01:00 766299 Link 0 |
Should be a red as it is dangerous play in the extreme !! Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 06/09/2010 13:07:57 766309 Link 0 |
Football first, I assume if it hit the player it would be a penalty, if it hit the ball or blocked his hurl, would it be a 21 yard free as it is a technical foul? Am I right? Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 06/09/2010 13:10:15 766315 Link 0 |
I agree that it should be left to the ref's discretion (so as we can al;l then complian about lack of consistency!). Whilst it is dangerous, helmets make it less dangerous, and it doesn't happen that often. If a team were making a habit of it, they should be punished. But, I've never seen a team making a habit of it. Culchie (Cork) - Posts: 799 - 06/09/2010 13:12:04 766319 Link 0 |
