Bradley hit with 48-week ban

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

As expected, the Derry CCC has proposed a 48-week ban for Eoin Bradley following his alleged assault on a referee last weekend.

The Derry forward, who has been found guilty of striking referee Declan O'Connor following his club Glenullin's defeat to Ballinascreen in the local SFC, was notified of his suspension on Wednesday night and has 72 hours to decide whether to appeal the decision

Well to me ban is not big enough and if county players cant behave on a pitch how do you expect club players to do it , the ccc should have giving him longer .

He got what he deserved. You can complain to a referee but you step over the mark when you assault him. Time to stamp this out. I have often complained about the standards but it is up to the authorities to raise the standard with proper courses to get them all doing their job the right way and with consistency. The refs are doing their best without the proper back-up so they have to be given proper resources. I have never seen a ref who deliberately went out to ruin a game or punish a particular team and i have refereed myself in the distant past but with only basic training. We can always improve the standards with proper and consistent training !!

should be a life ban, if you cannot control yourself you should be nowhere near a GAA pitch. sickening, cowardly stuff

i would expect the G.P.A to adhor this type of behaviour and not condone it in any way , simple really

My main point 48 weeks is not enough it should be double and does not matter about standards in reffing it should not happen in our game.

48 weeks is pretty severe.

The message this sends out is if your gonna strike you'd wanna make sure you connect with a good one because your gonna get banned whether you poleaxe him or merely graze him.

Throroughly deserved I really dont understand what is wrong with some footballers in Derry once they do well for the county team they think they can do whatever they want.
Derry will do well to rebuild without the interference of the Bradleys

I remember being in a rugby dressing room once when I played a bit of football in England (the team we were playing shared grounds with a rugby team) A big poster was up on the wall informing players of the punishments they would receive for certain infringements. Top of the list was Striking the Referee : Lifetime Ban.
The sooner the GAA introduce it the better.

As someone else said, if you can't control yourself you shouldn't be playing football. Everyone at some stage would love to have hit a ref but you just can't do it.
I remember a lad hit a ref in a local soccer match a few years back and he got a 5 year ban.
That makes this punishment look very lenient.

I don't know anything about the ref in question but I know a lot of refs who go on a power trip whilst reffing and I know some who aren't even aware of all the rules. I can excuse a bad referee but Anyone who has the brass neck to referee while not knowing the rules deserves all the abuse they get.
They still don't deserve to get hit though.
