Did Britain "save" Ireland in WW2

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

You mean the Shinners, they would still be here. You will know all about them soon enough and there will be no new British invasion to counter the new dispensation taking place in the country.Your fat out of luck again. You can lament some more,"Mayo god help us".

In 1606? IRA/Sinn Fein/Inla? I don't think so.

Fast forward 333 years to 1939, when the second world war started. It ended in 1945.

Bloody Sunday was in 1972.

I think you are a bit confused.

Your completely right Patrique it was the men of Tyrone under the leadership of Hugh O' Neill, and our comrades in Donegal under O'Donnell who led the defence of the whole country then. While the people of the north east continued to let the English get a foothold in east Ulster.

A few errors above. You will discover it was mostly our Celtic (no pun intended) brothers from Scotland, beloved by many on here, who settled in Ulster.

While the English Hugh O'Neill was running away in what was called the "Flight of the Earls" the McDonnell's from Antrim were watching their backs as they had beat the crap out of Shane O'Neill and his buddies some time earlier.

Amazing how some things never change.

Yes it is amazing how some things never change, you are continually wrong. The Mc Donnells murdered Shane O' Neill because they saw him as a threat to their own control of the east of Ulster and to win favour with Elizabeth I.Its an undisputed historical truth that Hugh O' Neill led the forces that were the last to challenge English rule in Ireland before the subsequent fall of the Gaelic order in the country. You criticize O' Neill and O'Donnell for the "flight of the earls" but they were left with little choice at that stage. If the rest of the country had supported them at Kinsale it could have been a much different story.Tir Eoghain Abu!!!

The Rangers?

When the USA entered the war in December 1941 one of their crack regiments was of course the Rangers who played a full part in the war until the end.

yes indeed the u.s.a armys rangers scaled the walls of omaha point du hoc to be precise to take out germany battery guns firing on the beach , so in hindsight the rangers were a great bunch , the 5th battalion ;]
