Hear say, conspiracy theories and personnel assumptions..

The weapons of choice for the Anti-GPA brigade

Hardly the base on which to build an argument...

Coming from a man that has already declared that he wouldnt share a table with a GPA representative...

I would have serious doubts as to your attentions on any subject regarding the GPA or any democratic matter to be honest.

Meath footballer Mark Ward, who was struck by a Louth supporter after this year's controversial Leinster final, has backed the GPA's call to end pitch invasions.

He said: "I can understand players not wanting to break with tradition. I'm no different. But after seeing what can happen I would be fearful that we will have a serious situation."

He will have his own insurance... The GPA merely get him a better rate

There is obviously problems with processing said health insurance policy.. its very common.

There is no fund dedicated for health care within the GPA... Sure said fund would have to be vast to cover 2000+ plus inter county footballers Dell

Health care is very expensive... that's why you have to have insurance.. it can cover you for 100's of thosands of Euro. The GPA dont have that kind of money simply sitting around in case a player gets injured. let alone 2000+

It's obvious you know very little about the GPA Dell.. yet you comment as if you do

I've posted on this general topic before to give my views as someone who is a steward in Croke Park, and I must say, I was very taken aback and touched by the generosity and understanding that my comments got, so thanks!

Reading the thread this evening, one thing strikes me in particular, that's the total and utter conviction that there's a huge amount of to be made from sponsorship if pitch invasions are stopped. And I don't mean to be rude, but the only phrase that suggests itself is get real. There is no pot of gold. Nobody's going to get rich. Alright, they may be able to get the power-hose out and do the stadium, but there's no more in it than that. Perhaps 5 years ago there may have been some merit in that argument, but today companies are scrabbling to get out of sponsorship deals if they can, not take on new ones that have a controversial tinge to them.

The problem is safety. I know I've rambled on about that at length and bored everyone into a coma, but as someone who has seen it a few times, it simply isn't safe for thousands of people to push their way onto the pitch at one time. People are too excited and lose the run of themselves completely. If you don't think this is true, just try to imagine what would happen to one person who tripped. The momentum behind them would result in their being trampled.

People talk a lot about tradition, but sometimes, you get the impression that the only tradition people are interested in upholding is the one whereby they can do whatever they want, and to hell with authority. The problem is, as I've said before, soon it will be too dangerous for amateurs to steward matches. That we can do it now is a huge, incredible achievement for the GAA and for Irish society in general. Imagine it anywhere else in the world - 83,000 people being stewarded by people who are only there for the love of it and who do not have a security role! Isn't that a fabulous tradition?

We, as the GAA public, may have to decide which traditions we value most. If it's pitch invasions, it may be time to go to professional stewarding.

From the remarks made on this topic overall, one gets the impression that nobody matters to some of you but yourselves.

Ye may think I'm in some way out to spoil your fun, but why would I be? What would I be there for only I'm a fan myself, and this is the voluntary contribution I can make?

I just don't want to see anyone get hurt. I really, honestly don't. I don't want to be powerless watching someone be trampled to death. It's an extreme scenario, but one that could happen. How could I ever sleep another night if it did?

Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean that it never will. And it only has to happen once. Unfortunately, the militant attitudes have made the likelihood of something tragic happening far more likely, in my view. I've been kicked at, sworn at, pushed, jostled and jeered at. There is only so much an amateur can take. I have felt in danger myself at times, and have thought very seriously about this being my last season. Oddly, though for all the talk, the incident involving the Louth supporters seems to have shocked people. It's all been very calm this year, and in that context, I think the fence may have been a mistake. People do seem to be holding off, Croke Park should've left it go for the moment in my opinion and considered it if there's still a problem after the football final.

So to end a long post, a short summary:

1. There is danger;
2. There is no money;
3. Please don't kick me!
