GAA football team of the year!?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Nothing against Cluxton or Dublin, Bernard Brogan is a strong contender for POTY (If Martin Clarke has a good final I think he will pip Brogan) and they have a couple of other good shouts but Cluxton let 5 goals in against Meath and I don't buy the "he wasn't at fault for them" nonsense. He's a keeper and that's what they are there to do, keep them out. McVeigh of Down is a better call.

sky_high: Theres far too many munster and leinster fellas on the team and it seems you were only giving the two all ireland finalists 3 sympathy votes, I wouldnt bother. If I were you I would have dropped some of them and put in McMenamin, S.O Neill, Mulligan, Jordan, C. Cavanagh and Canavan (dont worry with S. Johnston in there no one would notice Peter).

Sky high?

Seanie Johnson????

Did you base your team over his overall championship or on 35 minutes v Wicklow?
He was shocking the next day out.

jinxie yeah i suppose earley is a sentimental but sure im a sentimental sort of fella anyway....

ulsterman and dell dont make me laugh "dublinites in the gaa" if there were so many dublinites in the gaa dublin would have got more all stars in the last few years instead of the few they did get the gaa have used the dublin team and fans as pawns in their efforts to fill the coffers, one word springs to mind "Paranoia" guys

as for cluxton i knew not many would agree with me if any but he had one shocker of a game against meath but that was it has been brilliant since

this thread was about what people thought was "their" team of the year, that is mine and its all about opinions

i would expect it to be made up of cork down kildare and dublin players the big 4 this year i could not see any tyrone players getting in they never hit the highs this year that we expect them to and kerry are in development but there should be a couple of surprises from the louths sligos as such

Gooch has to be there. He was outstanding in all the games he played this year. If you were picking a team tomorrow he 'd be on.

I think justin mc mahon should make team of the year. How any other tyrone player are even being concidered is a joke. as people have said before the majority will come from teams in semis/final. Hopefully john galvin gets one

i find it unreal how biost some of these northys are ye say it will be biast to dublin players and yet ski high names 6 tyrone players in his all star team.
dublin won leinster last year and lost the quarter finals and didnt get 1 all star and tyrone do the same this year and you honestly think they desrve 6 and yet dublin are biost

Justin mc mahon tyrone and pascall mc connell should get all stars but i see tyrone lad that has 6 on it cant see anyone else getting any bar these 2 to be fair but still say cluxton does not deserve one as it would be a joke .

Whats with everybody having canty in their teams? An excellent footballer no doubt but he hasn't been outstanding this year. Someone like Mckernan from Down is much more deserving. Same goes for Cluxton, probably the best keeper in the country but on this years form either Mcveigh, Mcconnel or Quirke have to get goalkeeper.

There is still one very important match to go before we start deciding All-Stars. To me the certainties for All-stars right now, however, are Bernard Brogan, Danny Hughes, Marty Clarke, John Doyle and James Kavanagh. Evreybody else will just have to wait and see in my opinion. I don't think Graham Canty will get an All-star. I do not think he deserves one this year. The Cork players, at this stage, most likely to get an All-star are Paddy Kelly (should have got one last year), Paudie Kissane and Michael Shields.

Dellboy

I dont dispute that. I would put him on the team if I were choosing. I am not however and neither are you. You know as well as I do the way these teams are picked. The winners get most, the beaten finalists second and then the semi-finalists seem to share the rest. Unfortunately, given the track record of those picking the teams, I feel it is unlikely that a Tyrone player will get one. If it were up to me, I would give Paddy Keenan (Louth) and John Galvin (Limerick) the midfield places. Again, sadly, I dont think either of them will get them. My point was about who I think the selectors would pick (not my own team). I will do my team after the the final.
