Spiderpig, the fighting cocks in carlow is not the clubs nickname, believe it or not, that is actually the clubs name...or cocks for short. Also he is not an inter county footballer but there is a guy playing for a senior club in Carlow and his nickname is TAEbags,,duno whee it came from but he has it a while. Was watching his club a while ago play and everyone shouting his name when he got the ball, before some posh lad decides to shout out "well done TEAbags"...was funny at the time.Proper country,ya have to say TAE bags instead of TEAbags:)

going to take a stab at this one. in the comic book the Dandy, there was a character called Winker Watson.pulling tricks all the time. kind of a poor mans roger the dodger.... maybe it was just a play on his last name or maybe he was always messing?
