Gizmo glennon was a good corner forward for us.

Yes, The Fighting Cocks is the real name of the place in Carlow. It's just down the road from me. It's usually referred to locally as "The Cocks" as in "He plays for the Cocks."

I once heard of a guy playing football that was constantly being called Chilli. Apparently when questioned, it was said that it was because his fathers name was Con Kearney. Hilarious....

A famous name around my area is the Gunner Bradys. All of them take the nickname (of course, originally made famous by 3 times All-Ireland winner Phil 'The Gunner' Brady) including his nephew, Handball world champion Paul 'Gunner' Brady.
