"Corrxxx it is not a statistic its a conservative estimate of the strain of Islam that spawns jihadists fanatics. As I pointed out it is a conservative estimate and the numbers may possibly be much higher,or perhaps lower.Since 9/11 the world has become much more interested in Islam and its followers and many books,tv documentaries, radio programmes etc have been commenting on these matters and their implication for the world in general. Its a part of popular discourse now and is no surprise to most people,at least not to those who lend themselves to the notion that an Islam inspired fanaticism exists in todays world.Thats not very pc I know but at least its better than burying your head in the sand of the Saudi Arabian desert? "

I don't think anyone's questioned that Islamic extremism exists, just the extent of it.

Hell, let's look on the bright side. If there really are (by your 'estimate') 80 million lunatics out there intent on destroying the western way of life, then you could argue there's been a relatively and mercifully low number of terrorist attacks committed.

Whereangelsplay.Maybe we should be thankful, maybe for us in the west the worst is yet to come? Its a pity on the people who have to share a nation state with these lunatics though, people like the priest in India dragged from his vehicle and had his hand chopped of for saying something disrespectful about Islam. We can ask the Saudi fella, who the courts there are considering paralyzing surgically,as punishment for him causing the paralysis of another man in a fight, how he feels about it all if they carry out this despicable act of justice.Sure its a lovely culture they have alright. Can't wait for global sharia law."Stole a packet of tayto out of Centra did ye lad, just put yer had up there so I can chop it of with this hurl, bit blunt I know lad but its "Sharia" Irish style".

i agree that islam is a terrible religion but no worse than christianity. for centuries people have been tortured, burnt alive..etc for merely disagreeing with the churches teachings - in ireland the church was above the law and ireland was basically a police state controlled by the church. Even very recently in ireland they facilitated and covered up the rape and killing of thousands of children. Both islam and christianity are terrible blights on humanity, they teach that those who dont agree with them are sinners, infidels, going to hell...etc and then wonder why horrific acts are carried out in their name...

I suppose that is the natural conclusion to all this.

Thats true to a certain extent badmonkey.Like I said in a previous thread though we have had "The Reformation" and "The Enlightenment" to help us get over our religious zealotry. We can think independently from religious doctrine and not be severely reprimanded for it.We should all be very thankful for that luxury.

Well then Hipster that was a disgraceful punishment for an 11 year old,and when I hear about these things now I often wonder how this was permitted to go on for so long.A blight on our society and hopefully the likes of which will never be seen again.
