747153 Yes imagine buildling a catholic church or an Irish centre near Manchester City centre or Warrington. Sure werent the IRA representing Catholic nationalist Ireland. Is that not a sick joke? i hope this thread is a sick joke to be honest.

It's rare that I find myself agreeing with Paddy, but this sums it up perfectly.

1. It's not a Mosque, it's a Muslim community centre.
2. It's a Muslim community centre, not a bloody 50-foot gold statue of Osama Bin Laden.
3. It's not being built 'on the site of Ground Zero', but several streets away.

Some of you need to read 1-3 above a few times and take a deep breath before posting again.

Glad someone brought this up. There's been a mosque two blocks over from the proposed site for over 40 years, since before the Twin Towers were built. Somehow this has been left out of every report I've seen on the topic (bar one), no doubt because it removes any newsworthiness the topic might have.

In any case either America is the land of the free or it isn't, can't pick and choose when it suits the mob.

Scruffy, you're posts are ridiculous. You're an ad against freedom of speech. Maybe we should round up the muslims living in the west while we're at it?? We don't know whether terrorists are involved in this current project or not. Dear lord.

For every one 'extreme' muslim, not terrorist but extremely religious, how many normal every day people go about their day like everyone else?!!?! Like all wars these 'terrorists' are fighting because of money, not their own of course..

ogall.
could u not answer honestly .. instead putting spin on it and attacking the irish nation and the defenders of this island .
is this the official line on things , or is it your own words ... probaly your own out gunning and trying to impress her highness as u would addresse her.
anyway getting back to this farce or p.c brigade more than likely thought this up ... people should come out in their thousands to protest against this , i mean they have some neck to think that they could build a mosque on the site of ground zero , innocent people were murdered , firemen , police department , emergency services , father michael judge the first confirmed dead that day at ground zero .. this should never be allowed to happen .. and it will not be allowed to happen god willing ... the twin towers should be built up again in defiance and a rememberance gardens should be put there in the grounds around the towers .. people should take their sick ideas and take them somewere else .. and leave new york alone to rebuild their lives with dignity .

ta32 i was giving you context. If you dont understand it then i'm not going to explain it to you. Judging by your post you didnt read the newspaper article either..

Top reply has to go to Mr O'Gall on this issue and indeed should be the last word on it.

ogall.

ogall i am not going to lose any sleep if the do gooders do not get their way and build a mosque near one of the worlds worst atrocities , i know what angle i would look at it they simply do not deserve a mosque , and anyone in their right mind u would would think of such a thing is crazy and downright stupid , but more frightening they are clueless clowns out there who would be more than glad to accomadate to these people and forget the suffering that occured in 911 and the aftermath of the slaughter of the innocents that died that day.. so go ahead ogall and keep up the good work , because u and alike are just been laughed at by the very people u proclaim to defend ..

From reading this post, I deduce that you refuse to acknowledge that there are extremists living in the west. As i said I have no problem with mosques being built in the USA. As a God fearing Christian myself I actually encourage participation in Religion be it Christianity, Islam, Judaism however this proposed building needs to be placed elsewhere because it is going to upset a lot of Americans. If the people behind this project were serious about improving the views held by many about Islam, they would keep it well away from Ground Zero. Its presence is going to antagonise patriotic Americans, so put it elsewhere.

Republicanism is a political ideology Ogall, not a religious one. Some of the most well known republicans in Irish history were Protestants .The difference between them and you is that they were freedom loving agitators for all the Irish people.

9/11 was a massive disgrace, but it shows that America is moving on a nation.

Some of you need to take a more indepth look at this issue.Tolerance by one side needs to be reciprocated by understanding from the other. There are already 20 plus mosques in Manhattan alone and many more in the greater New York city area. The official name of this project is 'Cordoba',in remembrance of the muslim march across europe, and were they built a mosque on the site of a catholic church in Spain, after they destroyed the church of course. The building they want to use for this Islamic cultural centre is but two blocks from ground zero, and it does by the way include a mosque as part of the planned development. The building was damaged on 9/11 and body parts were discovered there also.I think the Muslims involved should show some more sensitivity and relocate the project somewhere else. The muslim community in lower manhattan is minimal so why build it there is a legitimate question. The price of real estate here is more expensive than anywhere in the world so it makes you wonder why they want to do it in the first place? The way of the sword?

well said sruffy ... people just do not realise how the average american family and the victims families are going to feel.
just keep this idea well away from ground zero .. and think about the feelings of the ordinary new yorker.

Great symbolic act of moving forward.

Perhaps build a joint monument to the innocents killed on 9/11 and the innocents (many tens of thousands) killed in retaliation?

Or maybe a proper inquiry into 9/11 would be a more suitable 'monument' ?
