Yet another best 15..with a twist...!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

cornelius, I only have 3 Derry Men on my team, lockhart, Tohill and Downey, and PB as a sub. If you look quite alot of ones have Tohill and Lockhart on theirs, and a couple also have Downey- so stop talking rubbish. i also have 4 Tyrone Men, 4 Armagh Men, 5 from Kerry and others from Meath, Dublin and Galway. I also said I had more Ulstermen because I knew Ulster players better...read the title of the thread and then the instructions.

Shane Curran is some fella alright, very eccentric but thats all part of the appeal. Bit of a José Chilavert about him, didn't he take peno's and the like for roscommon? Remember a couple of years ago i think he sent a sideline over the bar on his wrong side with the outside of the boot, maybe in a league game? What a legend. BB you're very right about him being responsible for the tees, a great innovation for the game. Its not often a player contributes such a development, especially when they're still playing.

The first all-irelands i remember watching were in the early 80s, so I'm judging from there....

1) Martin Furlong
2) Seamus Moynihan
3) Darren Fay
4) Niall Cahalane
5) Paul Curran
6) Henry Downey
7) Martin O'Connell
8) Jack O'Shea
9) Anthony Tohill
10) Matt Connor
11) Larry Tompkins
12) Pat Spillane
13) Mike Sheehy
14) Peter Canavan
15) Maurice Fitzgerald

My second 15 would be.....
1) John O'Leary; 2) Paudi O'Se; 3) Barry Owens; 4) Tony Scullion; 5) Tomas Mannion; 6) Keiron McGeeney; 7) Sean Og de Paor; 8) Brian Mullins; 9) Dara O'Se; 10) Colm O'Rourke; 11) Eugene McKenna; 12) Greg Blaney; 13) Mickey Linden; 14) Frank McGuigan; 15) Padraig Joyce

Having just re-read what i've written, I wouldn't actually be surprised if my 2nd team beat my first! So many good players to choose from although, of the 30, only Owens & Joyce are still playing. Maybe i'm suffering from nostalgia.....

Right - this is tough, I'm only taking players from 1987 on, leaving out the Kerry players of the 80s as that would make it an impossible task:

1. John O'Leary

2. Niall Cahalane
3. Darren Fay
4. Cathal Daly

5. Declan Meehan
6. Glen Ryan
7. Seamus Moynihan

8. Anthony Tohill
9. Dara O'Shea

10. Maurice Fitz
11. Greg Blayney
12. Larry Tompkins

13. Colin Cooper
14. Tony Boyle
15. Peter Canavan

Subs: Stephen Cluxton, Pauric Joyce, Mickey Linden, Brian Stafford, John McDermott, Keith Barr, Martin McHugh, Mick Deegan, Tomas O'Shea

I think the balance of the team is good, Blaney is in as centre forward as he's the best playmaker I've ever seen, and Boyle is the best targetman. Just looking at the team, certainly not short of freetakers...

Foward line is full of free takers, they would probally do nothing from play LOL

I forgot Tony Boyle existed. He was lethal. Totally agree with you about Blayney

3. Mick Lyons
4. Mick Holden (Hon mention for Robby O Malley)
5. Sean Og De Paor

Okay im 20.

1. Steven Cluxton - simply because he has taken the art of goalkeeping to a whole new level

2. SM Lockhart - any player who can hold peter canavan as many times as he has is definately worth his salt
3. Darren Fay - A collosus on the edge of the square, although if cormac (RIP) was still around id firmley believe he would have been my number 3.
4. Marc O' Se - like his other brothers, the complete footballer almost.

5. Seamus Moynihan - Everything u want from a wing back, great and defending and going forward
6. Kieran McGeeney - Not only cause of his presence but because of his outstanding footballing ability
7. Paul Curran - Fits the same criteria as Moynihan.

8. Dara O' Se - Outstanding player, has the midfield role down to a tee.
9. Anthony Tohill - Size, strength, power, can catch and score at ease

10. Graham Geraghty - An exciting player who could change a game in an instant
11. Ciaran McDonald - You cannot deny the talent and the ability this man has. Makes young people want to play the game
12. Oisin McConville - His scoring exploits along with his ability to perform in the big games proves his class

13. Maurice Fitzgerald - Easily the most talented player to ever kick an O' Neills ball
14. Declan Browne - Cant believe more people havent named him, if he was a kerry man he could have 6 all stars in his pocket by now.
15. Peter Canavan - again probably the second best player to garce the game after maurice fitz.

subs: J O' leary, Cormac McAnallen, Tomas O' Se, Ciaran Whelan, John McDermott, Kevin Walsh, Trevor Giles, Colm Cooper, Steven McDonnell. The subs off the top of my head no doubt iv missed a few more class acts.
