John Maughan said, after he had lost another All-Ireland final with Mayo (I think it was 2004-possibly-I can't remember), that he was not so disappointed or frustrated because he had at least the opportunity to be involved in an All-Ireland final and many people did not get that opportunity. A great attitude. Have a lot of respect for him as result. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 13/08/2010 16:52:25 745563 Link 0 |

I'd have a lot of sympathy for the genuine cork football fans who travel to all the games and dont just jump on the bandwagon when the hurlers get knocked out. With kerry out of it this year i'd say they have a great chance and hope they go all the way mikeoc (Kerry) - Posts: 567 - 13/08/2010 18:30:47 745681 Link 0 |

richiej - you know nothing about mayo football or our fans. i can guarantee it nobody in mayo believes we are going to win an all ireland every year. thats total rubbish. there may be a few lads in here trying to wind up other counties. but i can assure you mayo fans are not cocky. we have no right to be. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12125 - 13/08/2010 19:35:31 745724 Link 0 |

Theres a lot of counties that could claim to be longest suffering. In recent times Mayo in football and hurling galway. But imagine the suffering of Mayo fans in 1925 when they had to hand over the All Ireland title to our dearest neighbours Galway. peile (Mayo) - Posts: 180 - 13/08/2010 20:47:57 745767 Link 0 |

Being a Kildare fan hasn't been easy for the last 10 years. But we have it better than most. If I was in Mayo I would boycott football and take up Badminton or Morris Dancing. What they go through every year is 1 humiliation after another. They flatter to deceive, then usually fall into an all Ireland quarter final because of the apalling standard of the Connaught championship, then they are humiliated by any half decent team. Every Year is supposed to be " mayos year at lasht" but the truth is that they won't win an all ireland in our lifetime. I have a lot of friends from Mayo and I wouldn't be able to go through what they go through. Daith (Kildare) - Posts: 1172 - 14/08/2010 10:48:29 745866 Link 0 |
