Not being arrogant ochonlir and I don't doubt for a second the love and passion for the game in the less successful Counties. I'm just being realistic and pragmatic. In another code I am a big fan of Glasgow Celtic. If Celtic lose out on the SPL title I feel gutted because I always have high expectations of winning it, if we don't win the Champions League I don't spend any sleepless nights over it because I never expected to win it in the first place. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 13/08/2010 13:07:07 745253 Link 0 |

Agree with Slayers points but the fact still remains that we havent won the All Ireland since 1973 and being so close so many times is greater suffering than never being there atal. miketyson (Limerick) - Posts: 2748 - 13/08/2010 13:08:44 745256 Link 0 |

I sympathise abhainn. It is far worse for yourselves (than us hurling Dubs) of course because your disappointments invariably happen in quarter finals, semi finals and finals whereas our disasters generally take place out of the public glare! Galway club mate of mine texted me after the Tipp match to say he thought he had lost the will to live! But look at it this way, the good days will be even better when they do come. When we beat you four years ago in the league the Galway players must have thought we were all mad as hundreds of people invaded the pitch at the final whistle. Doesn't take much to please us ;-) hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 13/08/2010 13:18:17 745267 Link 0 |

I was devastated after the final in 98, myself and my father hugged each other in grief when the final whistle blew, nearest thing I can compare it to is the dread feeling in your soul that you get after hearing that a loved one or family member has passed away but the difference being you have the next year to look forward to and hope builds again. bryanadams (Kildare) - Posts: 733 - 13/08/2010 13:24:48 745275 Link 0 |

Cavan. 39 Ulster titles, 5 All-Irelands, and they've done nothing of note (apart from Ulster in 97) since I've been on this planet. Its hard for young people to believe that we used to actually produce awesome teams. Scruffy2Donut (Cavan) - Posts: 1112 - 13/08/2010 13:45:20 745304 Link 0 |

you're right hurlingdub - the only good thing about losing a lot is that when (if!!) you finally do win nothing matches it. This years loss was the toughest to take, but then I say that every year! abhainn (Galway) - Posts: 1000 - 13/08/2010 13:47:58 745311 Link 0 |

You's all have Something to cling on to, we in Wicklow have noting, Micko gave us a little hope but we were never going to win anything of any mention. Its Year after Year of torment, minors U21 and senior's all no were near making any kind of a break through so please don't feel sorry for yourselves in all other 31(excluding NY and Lon) counties and spare a thought for Wicklow. ochonlir My logic does not alone transfer from sport to sport but it transfers into everyday life. In any walk of life the bigger the expectation the bigger the disappointment. ITS PURE COMMONSENSE. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 13/08/2010 16:13:57 745515 Link 0 |
