How Good Is Bernard Brogan??

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Like all fans we will always be biased when it comes to our own so id like to get an outsiders opinion on Berno. Is he as good as we think he is and has he got far to go before he can be classed as a true great of this generation.Would he be in the same class as Mulligan,ONeill,Stevie Mac,Ronan Clarke, the Gooch etc? Or is he another overhyped Dub.Personally i think he can become a modern day great but as a fan its hard to really judge your own lads without being too biased. The 10 euro i put on him to be player of the year is looking good if we can get over Cork.

Cooper and McDonnell are a class above everyone in the country in my opinion.

I think Bernard is just a level below them along with the likes of O'Neill, Meehan, Freeman, Forde, Murphy, Doyle, Coulter etc. All still brillaint players but for me not in the class of Cooper and Stevie Mc.

i think he has the potential to get to the next level,i think he is only 24 so he has a lot of time.
i really hope ronan clarke gets back to full fitness because the more marquee forwards in the game the better, clarke is one of the best forwards of the noughties

Well the thing Brogan has that the other two mentioned there don't is that he's also a big enough man. He's been the outstanding forward of this year's championship at times living off scraps and Kildare would probably have won leinster last year if it wasn't for him so he's definitely not overhyped. He'll have to show consistency over the next 5+ years or so before he can start to be compared with some of the other players you've mentioned though.

Gooch is out on his own at present.

O'Neill may be Cork's most important forward but is a different player to the others in that he is not really a scorer.

Brogan is very talented indeed, a consistent scorer off both feet from frees or play.

Agree mostly. Except I think gooch is on his own. Brogan is as good as Mcdonnell & d rest tho. Brilliant with both feet.

I think he was talking about Terry O'Neill from Antrim rather than Pearse...

For me bernard brogan is great player he would be my player of the year already only for him the dubs would be out of the championship. His work rate is excellent he,s strong an can hold the ball to make room for himself to take his point. He,s great off two feet. His movement off the ball is great.Hopefully he can keep this up and then definetely yes he can be called one of the greats of our beloved game...

Put it this way, Dublins hopes of winning Sam this year rests almost entirely on the shoulders of Bernard Brogan, he is that important and that good.

Love it.

Terry? He is another McCullough, Penrose, Brian McGuigan, etc, useful defender but not so good as a forward.

Here, can you remember Stephen O'Neill from Tyrone? Now he was a player, but a few years ago.

good but by no means the finished artictle, john o brien kept him scoreless from play until last minute against louth. no doubting his ability but don't hype him up for a fall if things go wrong for dubs

Like most on here, I would put Gooch out there on his own. BB is in the next level. Looks a seriously class act.

He is good, very good another season or two will tell us how good he is.
At the beginning of this season I would have put him below the tier of Bradley, Meehan etc however he is up there now, or be it in the lower level of tier. he is below the top tier of Gooch and McDonnell and I dont think he will ever be that high.

For me though this year has given me the impression that Gooch is up there all on his own, McDonnell is to inconsistent and I dont think he is as good anyway. Gooch never has a bad game and he is a pleasure to watch, maybe the greatest of all time.

One thing is for sure with BB he is the best player Dublin have produced in a long time, and certainly alot better than his brother Alan, who alot of Dublin posters on HS tried to tell me was a better player than Bernard ????

He's in the top tier... no question,

Still a young lad with his best years ahead of him... and the thought of that makes me very happy.

Paddy, I get what your saying about O'Neill, he hasn't played any football worth talking about in 3 years with the exception of the league game in Croke Park against the Dubs - he was majestic that night.

Can I ask how you managed to turn a thread about Bernard Brogan into a another Tyrone bashing thread? Likening Brian McGuigan to a defender beggars belief!

In all fairness Bernard Brogan is a very good player that any county team would like to have. Kicks with both feet, physically strong a good fielder of the ball, knows how to pass the ball (unlike his bro.). This season he has been as good as any other forward in the country but to be classed as a superstar he needs to perform at this level for a couple more years on a concistant basis - which I am sure he will do.
