Tipperary - Greatest hurling county of all time?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Thurlesblues.

What I meant is that Tipp in hurling are similar to Dublin in football.

They dominated once but have been overtaken by other counties in the last 40 years and only emerge sporadically to challenege the big boys, Cork and Kilkenny.

Tipp, for the last few decades, are the same as Offaly, Clare and Galway in that they can get a good team together every now and again to challenege the elite but haven't been able to sustain it.

looks like Johns Doyles and rings 8 all ireland medals record wont be broken or even equalled now!

I think he is after Skehan's record of NINE medals.

To be fair, as 3241 points out, given that Kilkenny played in Leinster, you have to discount all our wins. Sure Wexford in the 50s 60s and 70s were rubbish. Offaly were attrocious in the 80s and 90s and of course the dubs in the 40s and 50s were awful. No competition. So I guess we probably scrape in as the 6th best county in hurling. After all of munster. Luckily we only have to beat Limerick, Waterford, tipp, Clare, and cork in recent years to win all irelands. They may count? What do you think 3241?

hags and cheese Il ask you a question now you said Tipp were a poor team when they won the All Ireland in 2001 and I agree with you on that but they still won it! Now my question is do you know for sure that Kilkenny would have won 4 in a row if they had met Tipp in the other finals cos bad Tipp teams have beaten better Kilkenny teams before in all Irelands?? and dont mention the semi finals cos they were in 2002 and 2003 and nothing to do with the 4 in a row. Will you answer that one for me!!

Where to start with this post from the twilight zone...

First Kilkenny and cork where as strong in 2001 you can only beat what up against you.... If tipp had met kilkenny they would have been beaten kilkenny where playing a strong team in cork year in and year out and tipp where strong enough to get to a final when waterford and Limerick got there how do you make out then they'd beat kilkenny....also the reson tipp are better now has a lot to do with the change of management sheedy wasnt there when kilkenny started their crusade.

Name be the bad tipp teams that have beaten kilkenny teams in finals!!!

Also how dose 2002 not have any think to do with it there still a lot players in and around the kilkenny panel that played back then I think there were 8 or nine in 2003 alone not sure about the panel Kilkenny lads might be able to answear that also the same manager.... therefore part of the basis of the 5 in a row challenging team.....

Get your twisted logic around that!!!

and tipp wheren't strong enough to get to a final when waterford and Limerick got there how do you make out then they'd beat kilkenny

as I said hags a weak Tipp team will beat Kilkenny in a final as they need to be twice as good as Tipp to beat them!

I know that thurlesblues is just trying to wind the kilkenny fans up but lets be honest, the greatness is measured in titles and so Kilkenny are the greatest, its that simple. As for the current teams this Kilkenny are probably the greatest hurling team of all time and the tipp team is mediocre wehn compared to some of their past teams. With both teams playing to the top of their abilities then Kilkenny are comfortably better. I think thurlesblues said that for Kilkenny to beat Tipp they have to be at least twice as good, well I dont think thats a problem because they are comfortably 3 or 4 times better

I guess that remains to be seen GreenGael in September because Kilkenny werent as good as Tipp in last years final so lets see will they be as good this year!

Tipp must be really bad so if they lost to a team that didn't play as well as them.

I suppost Tipp just bottled it............
