Tipperary - Greatest hurling county of all time?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think you'll find this thread is not about what offaly have won, we're not trying to take claim to something we're not, and we've been every bit if not more successful than Tipp in the last 30 years. Do you think I care about 1889 or whatever you are trying to brag about.
Faithfull , 10/08/2010 at 17:17

Yes faithful wel just brag about 2001 and the 25 wev one and wel brag about this years one too is that good enough for you?

32_4_1, I disagree, how can the greatest county of any sport go long long without winning finals and be considered the greatest. Munster or no Munster, Kilkenny have beaten Munster teams in nearly all of there all ireland wins. To be the best you have to beat the best, no excuses.

surely the greatest hurling county ever, would be the county wit the most all irelands(senior,u21 & minor etc. i don't know who this is) cos it doesn't matter wat province or wat era u come out of, u only can only beat wat is put in front of u and anyway, they still had to beat oppostion outside their province to win an all-ireland

don't think so unfortunately maybe back when tipp won in 1971 we were the best county but we've lagged behind for the last few decades but having said that i'm proud of the rich tradition and history of tipp but i would never saw we were the greatest county not for the moment anyway

Thurles blue you still havn't answer my pooint about tipp not being good enough to reach an all-ireland after 2001 hence kinda nullifies your arguement about tipp's record in all-ireland against kilkenny in recent history, you also disregard kilkenny beaten tipp in 2 semi finals in that time frame as they were all-ireland finals.

I think tipp now have the potential is challenging kilkenny if they play to their potential but we have to be happy with 3rd in the ranking in recent history.

If they can dominate this comming decade like kilkenny have dominated the last decade then fair enough give em the title.... I'll deal in if's again for you, if tipp do go onto dominate the next decade will you go to all the matches or cheery pick the games like you do at the moment.... also will you go to the waterford game or will you hold out for the all-ireland??

As I said wel never know whether Kilkenny would have got thjat 4 in a row if they met Tipp in a final after since 2001 but tradition still shows me that Tipp normally beat Cats in all ireland finals even when wev an average team does that answere your question hags?

thurlesblues:

So wait I trying to get around your logic here a team that can't beat kilkenny in a semi final on two occasions in the 00's and couldn't make it to an all-ireland on merit would beat them in an all-ireland!!!

Ok I've re-read the line I posted there several times there and sorry still makes no sense..... dose anyone else get his logic or is it just me!!!

I agree mikeoc in the 60s Cork Kilkenny and Tipp were strong and yet for all that , the 4 out of 5 all irelands that Tipp won between 61 and 65 nobody came within 14 points of them

All Ireland hurling final scores.

1961 Tipperary 0-16 1-12 DUBLIN

1962 Tipperary 3-10 2-11 wexford

Between 1887 and 1904, the Golden age of hurling, Tipp won 6 titles, Cork won 6 and Kilkenny none.

All downhill after that for Tipp.
patrique , 10/08/2010 at 17:08

what about the 19 titles wev won since patrique we have 25 you know!!

I was just agreeing withy the Kerry man. He said Kilkenny won their THIRTY ONE (31) titles to those 19 of Tipp's when Tipp were weak.

hags and cheese Il ask you a question now you said Tipp were a poor team when they won the All Ireland in 2001 and I agree with you on that but they still won it! Now my question is do you know for sure that Kilkenny would have won 4 in a row if they had met Tipp in the other finals cos bad Tipp teams have beaten better Kilkenny teams before in all Irelands?? and dont mention the semi finals cos they were in 2002 and 2003 and nothing to do with the 4 in a row. Will you answer that one for me!!
