I take an under 12/14 hurling team in my local area and I was wondering if any of you had any good drills or games that I can incorporate into the training session. Fr.Ted.Crilly (Derry) - Posts: 449 - 09/08/2010 21:15:42 741405 Link 0 |

There are loads of coaching materials available from the Ulster Council. Check out their website for details or ask your club coaching officer. thistle_harps (UK) - Posts: 879 - 10/08/2010 08:41:46 741473 Link 0 |
Look up youtube, some good stuff on there. Most important thing at that level is catching, first touch, blocking, hooking and teaching them to take their step and not just throw it up when surrounded by players. Faithfull (Offaly) - Posts: 573 - 10/08/2010 10:25:13 741535 Link 0 |
Have a watch at c'mmon caman on RTE 2 at weekends. Lots of simple drills for basic skills coached by top hurlers then played out im matches. Good show monitor (Down) - Posts: 209 - 10/08/2010 13:53:51 741874 Link 0 |

Maybe you should not be coaching them when you need to asked others for drills. Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 10/08/2010 14:46:16 741984 Link 0 |
One player on either sideline and one in the middle standing between two cones about fifteen yards apart. Player on one sideline hits the ball to the nearest cone player in the middle returns it. The player on the other sideline hits the ball to the other cone as soon as the player in the middle has turned. Carry on like that and must be done at pace. lol he is training under 12/14. As someone else said the biggest thing at the age is the basics. Passing, running at speed and most annoying thing iv found with young people is they just run after ball. try teach them to get and stay in positions (i failed at that part). dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 10/08/2010 15:32:44 742097 Link 0 |

Dellboypolecat, you have now comfirmed my suspicions about you. It must be such a burden to you to know absolutely everything there is to know about GAA and the world in general. captaincaveman (Dublin) - Posts: 18 - 10/08/2010 15:39:58 742127 Link 0 |
