Not often we agree Hipster, but in this case you are totally correct. Turkey has quite a considerable part of its territory including its capital. It has been a member of the EEC since 1963 a mere 10 years before Ireland!!

Suprise suprise the 2 that said no...

It is not really a surprise that Sinn fein are saying no. They simply do not want to be in a Fianna Fail dominated Ireland, and their supporters would ask "is that what all the fighting was for".

Hence the need to increase the vote, somehow, in the South.

On the other hand The DUP will have a United Ireland in the morning as a Fianna fail/DUP coalition would rule forever. Another reason for Sinn Fein's opposition at the moment.

Omar d. you are right, the unionist people are a small majority in the north, but since it is a false and manufactured majority then it has little credence,if you are of a nationalist persuasion.I know its how it is and we can't re-write history, and the events that led us to this situation. However,I do find it a little antagonizing when people feel they need to bend over backwards in the pursuit of being seen to be mindful and supportive of this false majority, while never giving much thought to the feelings of the nationalist people who found themselves cut of from the rest of the country by that damned "border"

They had a vote on the Treaty conditions, which divided the country.

In the North it was 100% in FAVOUR of the treaty from members of Sinn Fein.

An illustration of the power of the Catholic church who ended up running the south, and one third of the north.

Turkey is in Asia. Its government is influenced by Islamo-fasicsts, and you will have 70 million extra people in the union, who will work for a lot less than you will. Thats why we dont need any more cheap labour to populate the factories/industries, because jobs are already being lost to cheap labour economies.

If there are many racists in the south like this, I think I would be proud to be part of the British, Liberal, tradition..

Haha Dell's comment actually made me laugh, there's no comeback to such stupidity. As for the question, I think a united Ireland is on the cards but thankfully never in our lifetime. The ROI is a complete and utter shambles, every single aspect of the UK is better. Why give up the NHS, better roads, better education system, basically better everything to live in a country in that shape. It's nice getting down to Galway, Cork, Dublin etc. for a break or to watch a game but to actually have to live there, no thanks

Turkey's capital is not in Europe (Ankara is the capital not Istanbul) and only 3% of its territory is in Europe geographically speaking.
