It's great that people are posting some sense on this thread today.
Seanie, what are the results of the HS poll that you have conducted??
85% in favour I would guess.

Goodfella I don't see why I have to prove where I'm from. If you wish to ask me some questions about my fair village though then by all means go ahead, I must have missed these challenges that you speak of

'Polls - now there is a rather useless set of statistics to bring to a political argument. Think I will do the sensible thing a pay attention to the polls that actually matter - for your benefit Plunkett they're called elections. At EVERY election in the 6 counties for the last 20 years SF vote has risen by thousands to such an extent that we are now faced with the very real possibility that at the next Assembly elections SF will top the poll.........must be all the tooth fairies'

Sinn Fein may very well be the largest party after the next election, what's your point exactly? They'll still only represent around 20% of the whole population, way short of the 50% required. Goodfella if you honestly think the SDLP are a Nationalist party and their voters will all want a united Ireland I don't know where to begin with you. Your claim of a united Ireland within 15 years doesn't warrant a response it is that idiotic

PomeroyPlunkett you dont have to prove where you're from however if you are not from where you say you are, then it tends to take away your creditbility as a poster. Here are some quotes from the Tyrone forum 'Div Two Senior 2010' thread by people who actually do seem to be from Pomeroy.

"Pomeroy Plunckett IS NOT who he pretends to be.

1. There was no meeting held by the players a few weeks ago

2. The league is our main priority, survival - not promotion atm"

"God forbid if anybody from pomeroy ever finds out who you are ' Pomeroy Plunckett"

"wel pomeroy plunkett u musta been the only man at that, i am also a pomeroy player their was never a meeting. i think u should wise up and stop talking bull r else post ur real name, the real pomeroy people n players r getting pretty sick of you"

Well some of those posters who apparently play for Pomeroy Plunkett's can't even spell Plunkett so I don't think they have much credibility. Of course on an internet forum anyone can pretend to be someone they're not, I don't see why anyone would pretend to be from a small village in rural Tyrone when they actually weren't myself

That's pretty funny goodfella. He/she must be either the biggest WUM ever or else he/she's never seen out in pomeroy because he/she's inside counting the huge money he/she makes from his/her political decisions. He/she called me "ignorant" and "stupid" yesterday and then said that people who throw out insults are not able to argue....for once i agree with him/her.

What about people who apply incorrect use of the possessive apostrophe do they also lack credibility ?

PomeroyPlunkett & Bad.Monkey (who had another user name called rangers fan) are obviously deliberate wind up merchants. Pay them no heed.

PomeroyPlunkett perhaps you should read the extract taken from the SDLP's 2010 manifesto:

LEAVING THE UNION -
A CREDIBLE PLAN FOR
IRISH UNITY
The SDLP is committed to a united Ireland.
The Good Friday Agreement established
the democratic basis for unity and by
providing the public with a credible and
achievable vision we believe we can
persuade the doubters.
SDLP Nationalism recognises that
nationalists have a responsibility to detail
what a United Ireland would look like and
how it would work
.

Sounds like they're Nationalist to me.

Why has this thread got so many hits anyway, do people honestly still care about a united Ireland at this stage because i have to say that i genuinely couldn't give a monkies about getting the 6 back by now. Seriously cop on and get a hobby.

At least 85% hurlinspuds. Would seem plenty people still long for a united Ireland Htaem. Your opinion is in keeping with a general trend though.

Hey i wouldn't mind a united Ireland at all and if it did happen that day would be a great spectacle but its something that just doesn't bother me in the least, i could take it or leave it.

Seanie_boy you've alluded to a trend a couple of times now, what do you think this is? Is it posters against re-unification being from certain counties or from counties that return certain political parties in elections?

Htaem you've answered your own question. The reason the thread has got so may hits is because people do care about a United Ireland. Furthermore dare I suggest the reason you don't give a 'monkies' is because you don't live and/or have experienced life in the 6 counties and have no first-hand knowledge as to why so many people crave re-unification.

Well Goodfella you are on the right track and seem aware of this pattern also but I am going to leave it for another while before I comment.I would like to see more of the users of this forum join the debate first.

Thats exactly the reason i don't care Goodfella and i should have stated that earlier but don't get the impression that i have no respect for Northern posters on this issue because i do. But what i don't understand is people who live well away from the past troubles getting so hot over this topic when they haven't got a bloody clue what they're talking about, a united ireland would be nice but im perfectly ok with the current situation, thats just my outside opinion of things.

So according to Htaem a united Ireland isn't a pressing matter for people. The GFA has ratified the fact that anyone born in the North is as Irish as someone from Dublin or Cork, despite some posters assertion that we are British. The Irishness of those born in the North can't be questioned so in these depressing times the matter of re-unification has slipped down the pecking order in terms of importance. That's a view that I would also subscribe to, there's more important things facing people on a day to day basis than a united Ireland
