Kilkenny underhand tactics

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I have heard many times about the way kilkenny players at every level flick at your wrist the whole match with the hurl and by the end you can barely move the hands... Any views on this?

Thats what Ger Loughnane said last year causing Cody to lose the rag in an interview just before/after the AI final. Either way the refs aren't pulling them up on it and the are going for 3 in a row so i doubt the players or fans care that much what people say...

I know a fair few hurlers in KK and know how they are trained and in terms of my own county it is something that is being done in drills during training to "protect" yourself with the hurl. Its not a new tactic but it should be penalised. Also coming out with the ball you see lad with the hurl high up and into lads faces. Perter Barry and Pat Mulcahy were experts at getting away with it and more often than not would earn frees as well.

This is probably blasphamey but Kerry are at the same all the time as well, Donaghy, Dara O Se and Gooch are always at professional fouls and never are pulled up on it.

Colm cooper doesnt foul... but he does fall over rather easily and gets easy frees... Thats what mostly won them the match against Monaghan last year...

there is no such thing as an easy free, its a free or it isnt- why in god name doesnt the gaa make a video or what is acceptable and what isnt we wont have fools guessing for eternity- or perhaps is the real reason is the gaa dont know themselves

I agree with skillachi about the Kilkenny hurlers and with niamh about the kerry footballers. Kilkenny are a great team but they do employ underhand tactics to win matches. I even believe that they play very defensively in games. like the 2006 all ireland against cork. Cody came out last year and refurred to loughnane as a lunatic and everyone more or less said thats true aswell and it was forgotten about. what loughnane was saying was true. kilkenny are exactly like kerry are in football. they hit teams with bursts of scores, sometimes going a goal or two ahead and then at what ever cost they make sure they don't concede any big scores and usually match the opposing team score for score for the remainder of the match. this is more noticable in football where Kerry are masters at it. they type of matches I am talking about are when kerry and kilkenny are up against serious opposition.

BB Conor Mortimor is the best player in Ireland for winning easy frees

of course there isnt niamh- its a free or not, a rule was broken or a rule wasnt broken- its a black and white as that why complicate it, remove interpretaion out of it then you wont have to even make any judgement, every action for 70 mins is either right or wrong there is no inbetween- its about being rational

Lads i realy dont know what planet some of ye are living on! Do ye think it is coincidence that Kerry are the most succesful football county and Kilkenny the most succesful hurling county and ye reckon these two are the most sinical teams. Ye god damn egiots, grow up and stop bein coach potatoes. Do you honestly think that if this was the reason they were winning All Irelands every other county would not be doing it as well, there winning All Irelands as they can mix great tactical play with natural Ability. These tactics are part of the game and to an extent what makes our game so exciting, do you honestly think your marker in a match is going to stand there and chat away to you, I dont tink so lads this isn't novice club football and hurling !

Oh an Skillachi if Cooper having his Eyes gouged by McMennamin counts as a soft free then so be it ! But then again i suppose you wouldn't expect much more from a team that introduced serious "Underhand" tactics to the GAA in recent times!

An easy free is when someone falls over to make it look like a free or when someone feigns injury etc.

Niamh,
Ball-boy is right. No such thing as an easy free. If a player falls over or feigns injury then it is NOT a free. If the referee gives it then it is a bad decision. If a player is pushed in the back and falls over like he was shot it doesn't matter it's still a free.

ballboy,
if you have ever played the game at least once you will see that there is loads of easy frees. Play a game, then comment

Are Kilkenny the all-ireland champions, yes.
Are they the best team in the country, I think so.
Do they have some incredibly skillful players on their team, of course.
Do they use some 'dirty' tactics to win games, without a doubt
Does it matter, no.
