Its annoying alright Meathalltheway, but thats how it will always be and other counties always say we cant take the banter and wont listen to any opnion that we dont agree with, but truth is nobody ever gives a decent fair opinion anyway so what choice are we left with but to ask questions and wonder why teams show so much dislike towards us? We could break all the rules here and be playing the London Footballers tomorrow and everyone on here would predict a loss on our part. Thats the way it is....I find the Mayo and Tyrone fans to be the most hateful towards us.. hmm wonder why

And you deduce from this that you're hated, you seem to have a persecution complex. Try getting out in the daylight a bit more it may help. Hugz

Savour it lads, you know you're on the right road when your county is hated... surely I shouldn't have to tell the Meath lads this.

Because you invented the ulster style of football. Then they stole it from u and did a better job of it than u could do.

I don't know how hated we really are but we cartainly have the highest volume of rivals in the country, heres a few examples:

1. Louth - this seems to always feature hostility and has done long before the leinster final, the only set of supporters i generally don't try and have any crack with.

2. Westmeath - can't stand the sight of Meath but this is probably because they've never ever beaten us in the championship.

3. Dublin - the old enemy, but generally always in good taste and ive never seen any trouble at a Meath Dublin game (well not off the field anyway), usually just good crack.

4. Kildare - more or less the same as Dublin, no particular grudge held here either.

5. Mayo - now we venture outside leinster and where better to start than good aul Mayo, lost the fight, lost the final, but never lost the grudge.

6. Tyrone - lets be honest Tyrone collapsed under the pressure of being red hot favourites in 96 and just took it out on us, we were rough that day but it wasn't a game of kiss and chase lads, it was championship football.

7. Cork - goes back to the 80s, not as relevant these days but still resurfaces when we play each other.

Ps, don't suppose this post will do us any favours for support on sunday.

This makes no sense to why they hate us that should make us hate them should it not??

cos they ROBBED Louth of their first Leinster Title in 50+ years....they did NOT win the game and yet they still collected the cup....no honour or principle whatsoever ......not a bit sporting.......

really only meath people think they are hated, similar to tyrone. Some people dont like meath - due to play style in the past or just some supporters acting the pr***. I dont think there is a county in ireland that everyone likes becuase rivalry is what makes football. The only county you will see people nuetrals supporting is the weaker team that are no threat or in my case this year anyone who plays tyrone or kerry (just want someone new to win).

Not sure about 'hate', but its like I said on another thread, it would be a whole lot worse if people weren't talking about you, it means they either fear you or respect you, or both, but hate, nah.

I was there in '96 and although it was a bitter pill to swallow at the time I rarely give it a second thought nowadays. I have a great admiration for Sean Boylan but for Meath the best way I can describe it is ambivalence.

At the end of the day all that matters is..

MEATH ARE MAGIC!!

THE REST ARE TRAGIC!!

(If it was good enough to roar out of my lungs as a child 20 odd years ago - its still good enough for me now!!)

Lads you can pinpoint the fall from grace when we won back-to-back All Irelands in 87 and 88, and probably the first Leinster in years when we beat Dublin in 86. Meaths physical style of play was frowned upon and unliked by many counties. You can look to Barney Rock having his collar bone dislcoated in the teeming rain in the 86 Leinster Final, Gerry Mc Entee puch on Cahalane eary on in the replay of 88 and various other acts during games since then where the GAA fraternity felt we sailed too close to the wind and got unpunished (also Martin O'Connell standing on Dooher in the 96 semi final, Big John McDermott taking out Canavan after he had kicked a point in the same game and of course the infamous row at the beginning of the final are ones which comes to mind ). So the PR fall from grace so to speak happened in around then. We could go on all day with examples of our physical approach during games over the years but when you add the never-say-die spirit and resiliance we have shown to win games over the years, we are obviously not going to be very well liked!! It is only natural that your fiercest rivals would want to see you get your come-uppance.

I have to say, as a staunch Meath supporter it has given me and probably a lot of our other supporters an even greater amount of satisfaction in our successes over the years as a result. Call it siege mentality or an us-against-them attitude but it certainly has spurred us on so many times when we looked like were dead and buried. I, of course, exclude our recent Leinster final win from that comment as there is was no honour or sense of acheivement in winning a title in that manner.

Meath are not hated the reverse is probably nearer the truth.

I can understand creating this siege mentality it has a galavanising effect(Kerry have their own unique version)

Most reasonable thinking GAA people look back on the Lyons O'Rourke et al era with glee or joy or god forbid fondness

While a particular season goes on people choose favourites but favouring one team ie Louth dosen't mean hatred for the other and people jump from team to team as the season goes on(except the participating counties)

A good slagging now and then is all part of the football season and without it it would be such a dull affair.
