if Tipp win this year's all-Ireland thurlesblues, how will you celebrate?
Somwething tells me you're not the old fogie you let onto be, so will you be down the pub telling women parts of their bodies are fake, goading them for their perfection like you do to Kilkenny???

he'll be down the pub telling anyone who'll listen that 45 years ago he used to be unbeatable with the ladies. While nowadays, once every 10 years he gets someone to look twice when they least expect it.

I think we actually have a better head to head record V Kilkenny in finals too. Does that mean we're better? Not on your nelly.
Face facts man, Kilkenny are the benchmark. I was at the All-Ireland Intermediate hurling final in 1998 (Limerick 4-16 Kilkenny 2-17) on the day a legend of Limerick hurling passed away (Tommy Quaid RIP) and I saw a great player make a statement about the future. On that day Henry Shefflin was outstanding, yet ended on the losing side.
They're the best hurling county out there & I ain't brown nosing them, I'd love Limerick to be on a par with their physicality & control, they're something to aspire to not something to make fun of, like only you can do thurlesblues :-) 06/08/2010 11:50:27
Excellent post yet again Slayer. I would slightly change the language though and say that rather than aspire to be them, teams need to beat/better them. It is much of muchness how you phrase it but I think using the word aspire seems to imply that they are on a pedestal and all others can really do is imitate them but not challenge them. Obviously, you did not mean it like that. Hopefully the Limerick situation will be sorted soon. Give it Gary Kirby. The one good thing that has emerged for Limerick this season is that you now have a load of guys that have been given championship starts that otherwise would never have played. This happened with Cork in the league last year and we have found guys like Ray Ryan, William Egan etc that might not have ever have played with .
ThurlesBlues, do you not see any possibility that Waterford might actually beat you in the semi-final? They have beaten Tipperary before you know (quite a lot in the last 10 years in fact). I think the game is wide open, it should be the better of the semi-finals.

waterford have been tipp's bogey team over the last decade and we shouldn't be looking any farther than the semi final next week but i'm sure sheedy will have this drilled into the tipp players i hope

I'm not too hopeful to be honest.
The county board (IMHO) have taken a positive step in asking the 3 man committee to find a new manager. Justin McCarthy for example will have to go before these men & explain his actions to date. Thus far, he has not been asked to do so. There is a perception in Limerick hurling that we need a Ger Loughnane type figure to whip us into shape. While I admire greatly the work Ger Loughnane has done for hurling, I think a different approach is needed in Limerick.
We are going to need a man who is a good communicator & who will not let situations develop or cliques form. Our hurlers are intelligent men and I think any manager will find that talking to them will yield far more than shouting at them. Also, I always think ANY player at ANY level should know why he/she is not making the team in a team sport. No manager can be allowed to treat a player badly, no player should be able to get a manager sacked either.
Dave Keane, Senior manager in 2003 had a raw deal in that certain people were not happy with his choice of trainer and his selectors were able to out-vote him on substitutions. A ludicrous situation to be honest. The man guided Limrick to three all-Ireland Under 21 titles. I know 5-6 players from that U21 era and they never got caught up on tactics or systems. They trained as hard as their bodies allowed them and they played a 15 V 15 game, every man had to win his battle. And how they did it. Munster Final V Tipp in 2002, 3 points down in injury time & Eoin Foley blasted a 21 yard free to the net. In the replay, 4 points down with 30 seconds remaining and they got 1-1 to tie the game up. Then they eased Tipp out of the game to win by three points AET. Dave Keane's U21 team always played with self belief and great courage. I think he may be a good choice.
Kirby's lack of experience may go against him but as he is a hero to the Green & White he may be a huge unifying factor. I would not give it to Ciaran Carey or TJ Ryan just yet, but both have a part to play & could be great managers at a future stage. TJ is particular took on the Garryspillane job when the team were in decline. That was brave & showed how much the club meant to him. He's Limerick hurling through & through, we need lads like him.
All in all we now have a chance to progress from here. An All-Ireland quarter final appearance is not beyoned us next year. In 2000, I saw Eamon Cregan trying to build a new team as we played Cork in Thurles. We lost that day 2-17 to 1-11 and we saw the raw material for the next few years. Ten years on & we've gone into a dark period but now there is a chance to re-emerge.
We must take it.

Just saw this, it will be fun to listen to the blubbering Cork fans after another hiding.

I'll bump these up again seen as he dosen't seem to want to answear.
thurlesblues:
You deal in ifs a lot.... if tipp had met kilkenny after 2001 in a few all-irelands how do you think they would have faired.... you just using the lack of times tipp and kilkenny have met recently in all-ireland to try and cement your view.... simple fact is kilkenny have been making it to all-ireland finals tipperary havn't been good enough to reach finals.... I feel they have the potential to change this now and hopefully they can live up to it.... also tipp have been beatin in all-ireland semi final against kilkenny but i suppose that don't count?? they have been beating in 2 semi finals since 2001 namely 2002 and 2003.
The tipp team that won in 2001 in my view were one of the poorest tipp teams to win an all-ireland I'd even rank the tipp team of the mid 90's and also the current team better teams.
thurlesblues:
Well at least I go to matchs!!
So you went to the cork match and are holding out for the all-ireland then yeah??

One semi down. One to go. If KK weren't still involved, I 'd be shouting for waterford. However, in all honesty I'd really love another crack at Tipp so that we can put our lucky ref inspired penalty all ireland to bed. And could you imagine if we did beat Tipp how Thurlesblues would react.......

After Croks defeat and Kilkenny with their appetite still strong the focus is on Tip and Waterford and this is a hard one to call. Tip I feel have the speed in vital sectors of the field to overcome a strong Waterford defence and Waterford seem to rely too much on Kelly and the mercurial John Mullane for their scores.
Tip got a real fright against Cork and have woken up since then. Davy Fitzgerald's tactics will be worth watching and will he again crowd out Tip in the middle third of the field and hope that the pace of Mullane can bring them through?
Should be an interesting and tight affair and while many would like to see a repeat of last years final pairing, perhaps Davy can steer the Deise through. Will be very interesting and I hope the issue is in doubt till the final whistle. .

That would be a worry tipp's full back line havn't been as solid this year.... hoping the use of a man marker can keep mullane under control, mikey cahill and stapleton have the speed... I'd like to see mickey cahill on him he's a good man marker had sheamus callinan in his pocket in the tipp club final last year and did well on canning in the closing stages of the tipp galway game.

the tipp backs would want to tighten up a lot from the last day they're capable of that but if they don't i fear mullane and company will take us to the cleaners
