In a compatative study I have now decided that the closest thing I can see to Tyrone was the English team of 2002/03, at Rugby Union.
That team won the World championship and for a time were indeed the best team in the world, so this is a great compliment to Tyrone.
But you couldn't have watched them. Hard inch by hard inch, scrum by scrum, line out by line out, set piece by set piece, they inched forward until Johnny Wilkinson could drop a goal or land a penalty. They choked the very life out of the game, and rarely oif ever scored a try.
Highly effective and successful but totally boring.
Now I suspect Tyrone's training consists of running 500 miles a week, and then one hours practice of EVERYONE trying to kick points from 30 yards. Because if all 15 players are attacking, you will ALWAYS have a spare man with no one near him who can shoot for a point.
In short, as seen last Sunday, Tyrone have about ten Johnny Wilkinson's.
Highly effevtive and successful but boring.
Any thoughts? Anyone?

Yes. Its Rubbish.
Tyrone in my opinion play a brand of total football advocated by the Dutch many moons ago.
Everybody can play everywhere, all are comfortable on the ball. Anyone can score.
This 'choke the life out of teams' in rubbish.
If effectively defending a lead is 'choking a team' so be it.
Tyrone a super side with at least another All Ireland in them. Mickey Harte is a tremendous manager, possibly the best we've ever seen.

I'd like to see Tyrone playing a game of backs and forwards.. I'd sense there'd be a severe case of bamboozlement..!

So let me get this straight - Tyrone rarely score, relying on ten little Johnnies to take scores from penalties or the occasional last gasp drop goal. I don't know what match you saw Patrique but the match I was at Tyrone scored a total of 1-14, with all but three scores coming from open play (totally boring stuff). Admittedly, some of those scores came after Monaghan heads had dropped.
I suppose if we went back to Tyrone's game plan of the nineties, with lads staying in position and hoofing the ball up to a certain Canavan to get all the scores, that would be really exciting stuff?
Maybe its the team (yes, that's 15 men acting together as a single unit) attacking together and defending together that's boring - watching Tyrone's forwards track back 100 metres to tackle the opposition's full forward inside their 21 and win the ball - totally boring stuff!
The only comparison between the current Tyrone crop and the England Team of 2003 is that there are a few old heads about. Difference is that Clive Woodward kept too many too long - winning only 1 cup. Harte has blooded new guys along the way and has won a lot more.
The only boring thing in Tyrone's last two Ulster Finals was the lack of fight and quality in the opposition!

I enjoy the Tyrone "total football" style. Their conversion rate on chances presented is very high. They were apparently (J Burns analysis on BBC) cleaned out at mid field last week but still dictated the game. I read M Hearts book and the secret seems to be that its more than about football. They put an emphasis on personal development and developing a team ethos. I dont think they will lift Sam but they will probably make the final.

Tyrone have scored 2-14, 0-14 and 1-14 in each of the games they played, an average of 17 points. Cork have played 4 games including one with extra time and have scored 0-15, 1-14, 1-19 (against Cavan!!) and 0-12. Thats an average of 16 points even allowing for an extra 20 minutes of football and playing probably one of the worst teams in Ireland (no offence Breffni and crew), but you played Kerry so we will allow that. I wouldn't mind what you have to say except you can't back it up. If Tyrone are scoring more than Cork and Tyrone are negative, what does that make Cork? Is defending properly not as important as attacking well? If having 15 players all able to pass, shoot and tackle is negative then I will have negative all day long.

Kerry have scored on average 17.66, Tyrone 17 and Cork 16. This is widely agreed as the top 3 teams. Virtually no difference in what they score in a game. Kerry have scored 3 goals, so have Tyrone and Cork have scored 2, so I can't agree with your point, especially if you are comparing goals to trys. If you consider being able to keep the ball and tackle properly as boring then maybe netball is a better viewing sport for you. I can also assure you that Tyrone training consists of very little endurance running and involves 90% of the time using the ball. So in effect, Tyrone have 14 players who are all able to pass the ball and take a score if in position. By the way, if all these men are attacking why have they only conceded 1 goal in the championship against the likes of Cunniingham, McGourty, Coulter, Hughes, Clarke, Freeman Finaly, McManus etc?
At least you put up a decent argument this time even if it is correct. As for choking the life out of teams, what are they supposed to do, let them in for a couple of handy goals just to make it interesting? Would you consider Spain boring to watch?

Yes I have some thoughts, stop obsessing about Tyrone.
The best football team in Ulster attracted about 10,000 of their own fans to Clones. The best hurling team in Ulster attracted about 200 fans to Croke Park. If Tyrone are hard to watch then my God I never want to see Antrim hurlers.

Antrim, under Baker, try to copy Tyrone.
So at Newbridge V Kildare, with a gale force at our backs, we have SEVEN defenders.
What's that about?
Don't watch them anymore. Same way as I stopped watching that England team in 2003 and I was their top supporter since 1972.

By the way, some of you from Tyrone should watch the team sometime, rather than read about them.
While they have 15 attackers, they also have 15 DEFENDERS.
Really, watch them sometime. once, that should be enough.
