Eammon Fennell is a good midfielder, not the finnished aticle by any means but has great potential. He needs to sort his club situation out.

Royal 14, are you a WUM, or have you EVER watched a game of football? Were you at the qualifier v Limerick in Portlaoise last year when Galvin was awesome, or the previous year in Limerick when Limerick hammered Meath?

Relax there, I was joking.

He is good but still not sure he's one of the best in the country yet tho. The league can be misleading for players. Would like to see him against Galvin or Cavangh first.

Nigel Crawford gave John Galvin a roasting last year. Still both are top quality midfielders

if galvin is so good how come no1 has been calling him '' a great'' for the past 10 years then. huh??

I think Eamon Fennell deserves to be ranked amongst the best at the moment. Dick Clerkin is having his best season for Monaghan this year. One name that has not been mentioned so far is Dan Gordon from Down. I think he is a very underrated player.

What age are you Royal14?? 10
Have you not seen any of the clashes that Limerick have had with Kerry in the last few years. Galvin has been the most consistent Limerick performer over this time and more than matched Dara O'Se in these games

Judging by your posts you havent seen much football in the last 10 years.

He is one of the most consistant over that period & had Limerick been a tad luckier on a few occassions & won munster, then he'd have a handfull of All Stars too. Not his fault that the rest just werent good enough to help him beat Kerry or Cork, although they are getting alot closer.
I doubt theres too many lads of his size who are more mobile or effective than him.
He would walk on the ANY team in the country.

Just because he might not be all over the papers you read in North Leinster, doesnt mean that he hasnt been playing great stuff for years. How many people were aware of Stephen Bray outside of Meath prior to his All Star in 07? yet he'd neen almost a decade playing for Meath, albeit injured a little, but he didnt just become an top class player over night.

Ignoring temporary form and focusing only on those currently playing - injured or not - a fully fit Enda McGinley is the best mid-fielder in the country whose performances there won Tyrone the All-Ireland in 2008. Sean Cavanagh has ceased to be the same force at midfield since being converted to full-forward, where I still think his own instincts now lie. Nicholas Murphy has been up there but his very disappointing performance against Kerry in last year's final suggests that he is perhaps past his best. I think that Seamus Scanlon of Kerry, while unspectacular, is very good hard-working player in the more prosaic modern mould. I agree with Kevin Walsh in his contention that with the retirement of Dara O'Se we lost something of a bygone generation of great mid-fielders to whom teams looked for inspiration. There are almost none of those players around today. In this context it is highly amusing to see names like McConnell, Crawford, Fennell, John Galvin and the many other mediocrities mentioned. White and Keenan of Louth may well prove themselves to be among the best but it is too early to say. If Louth are to beat Meath on Sunday they will have to be.

Brendan Quigley of Laois is rated by all other county players...I know Paddy Kennan of Louth reckons he is the best out there.high praise from a fine player himself.

Galvin is superb and so it Nicky Murphy of Cork....

I alos like Lennon of Monaghan and Shine of roscommon!

I don't think you could ever call John Galvin a "mediocrite"; sure his team have not been up there with the top guys but his midfield performance is consitently of a high standard. Darragh O Se, who by some is regarding as one of the best midfielders of the last while, rated John Galvin as being his toughest opposition ever.

Why so much anti-Galvin stuff from Meath men here? The only dissenters are all Meath men! He would walk on ye're current team lads and any team ye have had for 10 years and be the best player on it! To be a great footballer you dont have to be from Kerry Meath Dublin or Cork you know.
To say Nick Murphy and Nigel Crawford are better is frankly laughable.

green gael, wat has age got to do with anything??
before last sunday i NEVER heard any1 praise john galvin.
for the people sayin he deserves an all star, surely if he was good enough he would have won an all star by now and don't use the excuse of bad players round look at declan browne he won 1 in a medicore team

Royal14 that is exactly the point - Declan Browne only won 1 All-star, he deserved so much more but Tipp were usaully out of the championship after 2 games that everyone forgot about him. If he was playing for a division 1 team he would have won 4/5 at least. It's the same for John Galvin, he has been brilliant the last 10 years but beacuse Limerick haven't made it to All-Ireland 1/4 finals he hasn't been mentioned. The All-Stars are flawed that way, the team has to do well for a player to get an All-Star, it doesn't matter how good the player as an individual is.

Galvin has been consistently described as one of the best midfielders in the country for the last ten years. Just because you didn't hear it dosen't make it untrue.

if john galvin was as good as u all say he is y hasn't he won an all star then?? cosidering he would have had more games in a season to impress than declan browne yet declan only played 2 games roughly a season and he won an all star. so don't be makin excuses about how far the team get or how the rest of the players play
