Best midfielders in Ireland right now

One things's for sure, Galway's midfielders won't be getting a mention in this thread anyway! (at least not apart from this post).

699127 I agree with the meath man - reserve judgement on the louth pairing until after sunday!!! No doubt paddy keenan is a wonderfully talented player and in my opinion, impresses most times he pulls on the louth shirt but to put him and brian white up there with the best midfield partnerships in the country may be a step too far. They have been very impressive so far this championship season but against weak midfield opposition in my opinion. Longford weren't at full strength and they struggled past them, kildare played with an unfit dermot earley and clearly underprepared kildare team, and westmeath are known to be short of midfield options this year so until I see the louth boys outjump crawford and meade this weekend I'd go easy on praise and keep their feet on the ground!!!

I agree with what you mean alright but Louth's midfielders, Paddy Keenan in particular, have being producing the goods for a few years now. Keenan used to carry Louth through matches largely on his own. Now that the rest of his team mates and especially the inside forwards have stood up to the plate, Louth are going places.

Paddy Keenan is the real deal.

Paddy has just picked up the Vodafone player of the month award for June.

Well done Paddy fully deserved.

I can't believe people have put Ross McConnell in here! I know one post was messing but another seemed serious. Maybe the poster in question is Pat Gilroy?

fergal doherty from derry has to be in there along with marty mcgrath from fermanagh. guys the best midfielder in past 3 years has to be enda mcginley from tyrone he has been so good tyrone could afford to put sean cavanagh at full forward.

No doubt about it but Dermot Earley Jnr is up their with the greats. Going since '97 and two all stars despite suffering numerous injuries and a serious illness. The man is an absulute legend. The rest mentioned are also fantastic footballers but how anyone can even mention Ross McConnell in the same sentence as some is these boys beggars belief.

Seriously Royal14???!!! Shows how much football you have watched oveer last 10 years. The guy has been a top midfielder for years. In all those Munster final defeats he was probably best mf on show.

Have seen him in many Div 4 games against us and he is a stand out player all the time. Sad that he probably will end up without a Munster medal.

John Galvin-one good game?? Are you for real? This man has been one of the best midfielders for the last decade; completly underrated. He should have got an All-Star years ago, never mind this year. Just watching him is pure class.

without a doubt it is dermot earley...still one of the fittest footballers in the country and undoubtedly the best midfielder in the game..he has it all.great fielder of the ball, big, strong, scores too and can run all day and he in his 30's...you could see kildare are a totally inferior team when he is not playing than when he is. he was the main reason for their good run last year...how people can say the likes of ross mcconnell are better than him i'll never understand.
