I know Im only on the site a week but I just want to say that theres only one team Tipp have any respect for and thats Cork there is such a friendly rivalry there its unreal I think both teams have beaten each other the same number of times in championship hurling in the history of the game, what a rivalry, we shout for them if we are beaten in Munster and I know they shout for us! thats hurling aristocracy I guess.

So you don't respect Limerick or Kilkenny for example?

That's funny because if you had kept back 2 of the goals you used to massacre us last year & kept them for Kilkenny then you might have beaten them :-)

To other Tipp fans, I've great respect for all your county has achieved in GAA but thurlesblues does you no favours whatsoever!

Are you bloody serious teams of the 60's being fitter??? These lads were found of the an ould smoke now and then and normally had a steak before a game... you've professional training methods these days in comparison. Also the equipment they have these days favours a different type of hurling. Then heavier stick with a small heavier boss in the 60's favoured quick ground hurling the boss on the stick these days i think means the players find it easier to rise the ball more quickly.

Also jimmy doyle cannot be questioned as one of the greats but you harp on about the all-irelands he won well there a tipperary man who has won more than him Johnny Doyle but I suppose he's not a thurles sarsfield man. Has one more than henry, kavanagh an the likes at the moment but those lads have another few years in them.

As regards the tipp cork game, exciting all the same but in no way an epic, scrappy hurling at times littered with wides and some poor referring on the whole.... with 8 county senior players on the panel I'd have expected more from tipp.... cork had only really 3 dangerous forwards clifford and o'farell and gould who came on!

So you're speaking for the whole county now?
And you're only on a week? It feels much longer.

getting back to the match, I 'm with Omar. Asaike definitely over carried. However, as I had £50 on him at 8/1 I didn't mind.

Eoin Kelly's goal was goal of the season and it looks like Donal og is on his way to another all star. Boths ets of forwards were dire in the first half and if both teams played like that for a full match, every team left in the championship would have beat them. I think Cork were in ways lucky with the injury to O'Connor as this resulted in shake-up of the forwards which turned the match completely. I still don't know why Cussen doesn't start - he's proved he is a fine hurler and I'd prefer him to Asaike anyday. I think Cork need to produce another decent display as their first half performance and the performance against Clare are markedly different to that against Tipp.

I can see the replay favouring the Deise and think they might sneak past Cork.

Agreed. There was one time a big ball was lobbed into Shanahan, Cusack came out, caught it took a few challenges and found a Cork jersey with a good pass. I'm not the blokes biggest fan after his actions with the 2009 strike, but he showed bravery & great distribution last weekend. Credit where it is due.

slayer, I'd be even less of a fan for his striking and comments about Kilkenny but he is a decent keeper. Makes it all the better when Kilkenny rattle a few goals past him. ;-)

Cork to win by 4 or 5. The Limerick game was no preperation for a Munster final and after the match last Sunday I think Cork will benefit from it more than Waterford, that said Cork always have a mental block against the Deise for some reason, just like they do with Kerry in the football

To be perfectly honest i think cork should win the replay but have been suprisingly poor since the tip match. If waterford win then we're in for some rip roaring 1/4 finals - wouldn't cork automatically get dublin/gal, having played tip already??? In which case 2 of the big 4 (galway, cork, KK and Tip - the teams that i think have a chance at the AI) will meet in the 1/4 finals. Either cork v gal or gal v tipp. both mouth watering prospects.

I would also start cussen, he's better than hailpín without a doubt. Did badly with that last chance though.

In a season of low attendances, the GAA could use a few epic draws.

Starting Cussen may not be the answer to Cork's woes. Cork were absolutely dire last week. Even guys that you can normally rely on like Shane O Neill had poor games (though I think this guy is as good as any in the country and everybody is entitled to a poor game). As somebody pointed out, our forwards were particularly off form.

Fraggie was always a bit part player with Cork, his form has dipped so they rewarded him with being captain, now he can not be dropped. Patrick Horgan does have quality, has a great touch, in a year or two if he keeps progressing, he may toughen up. Niall McCarthy is improving and the one bright point for us. However, Niall is after a few really poor seasons, is an unorthodox hurler at best and seems to be now carrying an injury (which makes things worse). The O'Connors are great hurlers, I think every team would love to have them; but maybe not both of them and certainly not both of them in the half forward line. Great hurlers, brilliant if the ball is played low to them, in to their hands, very accurate, supremely fit, very intelligent and great work rate. Poor at pulling balls out of the sky however. That is what you need in the half forward line. Only Niall Mc can do that. That is not enough.

Aisake, though his goal should have been disallowed, and is not the most skillful player on earth, is at least dangerous. If he does not win the ball in the air, it is unlikley that any full back marking him will winit either. The ball is likely to break and if our corner forwards were intelligent enough they would be on those balls.

Cussen is not skillful enough to be in their ahead of Aisake in my opinion. There is no room for them. Personally, I think Cussen should have stayed with the football where he was a very good impact player. We may see him back there yet.

Slayer as I said to you already the only team Tipp have any respect for is Cork and gags you didnt read my post properly I said the Tipp team of the 60s would be just as fit if they were using the methods back then as they are now they would still be the greatest team of all time in any ers and in relation to the match last night it doesnt matter how many seniors we had we were still up against Cork and they are never easy beaten even with a bad team are you not happy we won? or were you waiting to slag me off if they lost sounds like it!!

Still think Waterford might win this. If more of their forwards produce the goods then I think they will win. A bigger performance from Eoin Kelly and Brick will get better with game time. Expect to be another close game.

No disrespect to Cork but I think last weekend showed they aren't going to win the All Ireland. Aisakes performace against tipp masked over their problems in the forward line.

Another massive woulda off you.... so we'er getting the time machine now and firstly going back to when all these lads were young fellows bringing to the point in time that all the kilkenny lads were young lads and starting them on the same training with similar coaching methods to play a one off match against this team...... but do the 1960's team teams have to wear helmets and use the modern day hurls too...... Have i got everything covered in your imaginery clash of the champions now.

saying one team was better than another is in the context of achievements and how dominate a team is.....

I hate to say it to you hags but for a felolw Tipp man you dont know much about the game of hurling ,if you dont think that the 60s Tipp team were playing now with the same training methods and supports that are now in place that they couldnt adapt to the game. It would actually be easier for players like Jimmy Doyle with the 3rd man tackle gone he would be actually more devastating now than he was back then with the protection players have now so dont be talking rubbish my man!!

Sorry lads getting back to the point of the thread.... with jerry o'conor missing i think I'd have to give the nod to waterford..... but cork do have a habit of proving people wrong.

Sorry but to answear thurlesblues:

What makes a team has a lot to do with how they are trained and drilled... if you change this you have a different team, would kilkenny be as successful then if they hadn't brian cody. Well if that's you point then i venture that the tipp team of the late 80's early 90's would have beaten that kilkenny team if they were using the cody training methods and cody tactics.... if you don't see that then I question your hurling knowledge!! The context of your arguement is all over the shop.

hags and cheese please dont compare the Tipp team of late 80s and early 90s to the Tipp team of the 60s as it would be like backs and forwards it would be embarrassing for the 90s team!!
