Munster Hurling Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I actually think Waterford will win this.
They love playing Cork, they're underdogs and written off by a lot of people.
Dont write Waterford off yet lads.

Tipp made Cork look good, having said that Cork won't be far off the All Ireland.

Would like to see Waterford win, but I think Cork will win fairly comfortably. I reckon Cork by 4 or 5.

This will show whether Cork are genuine contenders for All Ireland. In horse racing terms I think Waterford are 'exposed' (ie. their form is well known) and while they could beat Cork I just don't see where they have or could improve enough to beat the Cats. Cork, on other hand, could be like Kerry in their second coming in the mid 80s, with a good blend of experience and youth. They also have that inestimable virtue of not having any fear of the black and amber. Firstly though, they have to win on Sunday so it will be a fascinating game to watch.

Think Waterford could win this one all right, but still think Cork stand the best chance of defeating Kilkenny.

Could be a Cork Waterford Munster & All-Ireland final..............

Its a 50/50 one. Whilst I always want to win a Munster Championship I would actually prefer to play Kilkenny in the semi-final rather then in the Final. I believe Tipp and Clare will get through to meet either Galway or the losers of next Sunday. I don't think Cork can meet Tipp again at this stage, so if Cork lose its likely to be a Cork/Clare quarter with the winners to face Kilkenny. I would fancy us to beat Clare and all in all this would be the route I'd prefer. Having said all that come 4 o'clock next Sunday I'll be bursting a blood vessel roaring for Cork to win.

Should be a classic, hard to know where Cork are at,theyre not as good as they looked against Tipp¬ as poor as they looked against Limerick,so this will be a test of how serious a team Cork are.A lot depends on what team Davy Fitz goes with, will he stick with the younger players, will Lawlor or Prendergast play on Aiske, will Ken McGrath play, will Dan the Man play?very much down the middle with this one, tipped Waterford to win Munster this year,so i'll stick with them, but kinda afraid that there are too many question marks over their team, whilst Cork have a settled team,so it could go either way.

League match was a draw. Think this will be a close one as well. Only worry for the blaa eaters is there full back line have been shipping a lot of goals in recent challenge matches. The worry must be that this has to be possibly the last hurrah for a few of these great Wayerford lads.

Good point Hoo-Rah. If Cork play like they did against Tipp nobody would beat them. Tipp probably don't get enough credit for that. I think that game was more about Cork being outstanding than Tipp being particularly poor. But, it is doubtful that Cork can produce another performance like that again. They were shockingly bad against Limerick. It was actually worrying. I know the opposition was poor, but I've never seen a Cork team play so badly in June. Fair enough if the game was in March or April, but I didn't think it was possible for any tuned in inter-county outfit to play that badly in the month of June.

I don't know how settled the Cork team is either. I think Walsh will pick it with the opposition in mind. For that reason I'd be surprised if both the O'Connor's started on the 40. Worth considering Cronin (if fit), Mark O'Sullivan (outside possibility if going well in traing) and Cussen here. It might also be worth replacing Aisake with Cussen, but I'd wait for the play to develop. Aisake won't get the quality ball he got from Gardiner and might struggle. Cussen may well do better from poorer ball. Also, for me Paudie Sull has to be seriously considered. Against Limerick Fraggie Murphy scored 2 points in 70 mins, Paudie scored 1-1 and had another goal saved, in 10 mins. The lad must be wondering what he has to do to get in the team. Every time he's introduced, he performs. Maybe if Murphy felt he had to play his way back into the team, he might realise his potential.

Ignore Corks performance against Limerick. It was a pointless game. Personally think Waterford could win this one. Hard to know for sure. Think they may have underrated Clare a little but showed alot to pull through that game (and by the end of the year it might look an excellent performance) Hard to rate Cork's performance against Tipp. Cork were excellent but Tipp looked below par and out of sorts. Both teams have alot of experience and it may depend on how Waterfords much maligned full-back line holds up. I'll say waterford by 2-3 points. Be much better than the Leinster final thats for sure.

Breffni, I assume it's all ticket. I got terrace tickets the other night anyway. They may be on sale outside the ground on the day, you should check the GAA website. I reckon it'll sell out though.

Have to agree with the posts about people not giving Clare enough credit, they had what 9 or 10 of the 21s involved&if Clancy had performed,ya never know, give it a couple of years and Clare will be a serious team.i think in regards to Waterford, they need the likes of Kelly,Molumphy,Dan the Man and Maurice to help Mullane and chip in a few more scores from play.

I doubt very much if it will be a sell out, you can absolutely be sure there will be a caravan outside the ground selling tickets. My guess around 35,000 with the game on telly and if i'm not mistaken the World Cup Final on later a lot of lads wont be shifted from the armchair.

You are right Culchie. A lot of people will not be bothered with the World Cup final on and anyway the Munster final is on TV. Given the day that is in it, I will probably watch it on TV myself. I am at matches and training everyday this weeking and fancy a relaxing weekend. Cork/Waterford is always a great game but to me there has been no great games in this year's championship. Kilkenny have looked like Kilkenny, and the rest have just looked like themselves (poor, really really poor). All in all, dismal stuff. World cup, though some matches have been dull (and hurling is 100 millions times my favourite sport) is at least fascinating. The hurling championship is a damp squib (as some other poster has said).

Hi, I think Tipp will win the All Ireland as traditionally they will always take Kilkenny and aside from the fact that we were robbed last year with the penalty that was a free out I think wed have won by 7 or 8 points.I dont think Cork have any chance as everyone knows that Tipp did a training session the day before the Cork match and thats why they were so flat.
I think this is a great Kilkenny team but they would only last maybe 45 mins against the greatest team of all time which was the Tipp team of the 60s with HELLS KITCHEN AND jIMMY dOYLE AND COMPANY.
