Worst film ever watched

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

My pet hates are period drama's such as Howards End and chick flicks that are regarded as serious films because it deals with emotions like the Virgin Suicides.
Another one I despise is Crash. Probably the most overrated film I've ever seen in my life. If you want to watch a film that handles the issue of racism and how it influences society then I would recommend Do The Right Thing - an absolute gem. The whole 'coincidence' story line doesn't make it a good film, for me it made it even more predictable. Can't believe that got an oscar

I'm with you on that one Navynblue. It seems that Hollywood likes to rally to a cause from time to time, AIDS (Philadelphia), Gay rights (Milk), racism (Crash), and that can only account for the success of such tripe.
You're right about Don The Right Thing, great movie and really atmospheric, you could almost feel the heat of the NY streets.

Agreed on Crash and others being pure oscar fodder. Million Dollar Baby (euthanasia) is another rubbish film we were supposed to think was inspirational. Clint Eastwood + Morgan Freeman = thought-provoking when in reality Clint Eastwood + Morgan Freeman = Cynical emotional exploitation.

Totally agree on Crash and anything done by Clint Eastwood in last 20 years and this includes Unforgiven (good but not great), Million Dollar Baby (yawnfest) and both Gran Torino and Mystic River (totally overrated).

This may not appear on peoples worst movies but I would class it as one on the most pointless movies ever made, Cocktail, no plot, storyline, characterisations, moral, nothing except a vehicle for Tom Cruise to remind us that hes 100% heterosexual!!

_____________
I saw an even worse one written by King
Some buck spends 20 years in a prison with a gaping four foot square hole in his wall without anyone ever feeling the draft, or making him move cell or moving someone into his cell- Though he did manage to disguise the whole thing with some blue tack and a girlie poster. Even at one stage he was put in solitary for a few weeks and still no one checked his cell - nor did the poster ever fall down cause the blue tack dried

Anyway after nearly three hours of drivel he gets out via the hole

With you on Mystic River there Face. Sean Penn had 2 emotions - angry or sad. The acting was very hammy in that film. If Tim robbins was an ice-cream flavour he'd be double vanilla. I came out of the cinema thinking, what the hell was everyone raving about. Bored me to tears.
Have to say I did like Gran Torino or should I say What Dirty Harry Did When He Retired!!

When I first saw the Shawshank Redemption, I thought wow, amazing, an absolute classic. Watching it now I have to say that I'm tending more to the side that it's flawed. The twist at the end is what endears most people to it but if you were to be pedantic about it then you'd have to go with something close to madasbutters assesment. Also, the warden was just a cartoon bad guy, we never know why he's evil. So he embezzles some money and was corrupt - so that automatically makes him the kind of guy to kill some inmate who knows a story about some other convict who got away with murder!!! And for that matter, why not kill Andy instead of the other inmate, especially since Andy had so much evidence on his corrupt business dealings!! The ending with Red and Andy having their hug on the beach was all a bit too disney too. Sorry if anyone hasn't seen Shawshank and I've just ruined the ending!!

Cant agree re shawshank.
Shawshanks problem is it became TOO popular, to the point now where its "cool" not to like it
And if you say "my fav movie is Shawshank" people throw their eyes to heaven
Take it for what it is. A classic movie that was SO good, everyone liked it that led to everyone disliking it so as not to be a sheep!! Pretty soon so many people will dislike it just to be different, that it will once again be cool to like it!

Sean Penn would be a top film actor.

He is not Daniel day but h is excellent.

Mystic River was very good, as it illustrates the dangers of jumping to conclusions, as evidenced many times on this site in relation to events in the north for instance.
