I would question who can mark Benny Coulter in that Tyrone back line also?

We didn't perform as well as we should have against Armagh. We edged Donegal but made hard work of it. We were without Ambrose Rodgers in both those matches. By finally adopting the 'blanket' defence, our much maligned defence conceded the least in the League. Yes, we weren't playing Division 1 football. We will next year.

Tyrone are the greatest Ulster team of the last 10 years but Down will have the hunger to beat Tyrone. Down to win by 2 points.

A Down man accusing Tyrone supporters of arrogance, now that is funny.

What the hell. I know i cant speak for all people but tyrone most tyrone supporters on here never stop talking rubbish. Down have every right to talk and they havent talk half as much rubbish as the tyrone lads. This is championship were every team has a chance if things go right.

I think it'll be tight game with only a kick or two in it. Its really a battle of the defences i think becasue both teams are good going forward.
Prediction Tyrone by 2 points (hope down win though)

673942 Down Exile quit living in 2008 on one match would ye lad!

They dont have a player who can mark o'neill

Why ye slagging Down off? No one said anyone controversial or bragging ... just looking forward to waht promises to be a good game. Aint no problem in that is there?

If anyone is still living in the revel of 2008 i think it's you boys!

We'll see how O'Neill does get on then shall we?!

A lot of tyrone people slagging off the Down defence, have a look at your own! Not exactly rock solid!

Both teams have better forwards than defenders so could be a shoot out but midfield will be the key area. Kevin Hughes should be the pick of the midfielders but if Down can match him then you never know!

I slag off the down defence as they kept murphy quiet scoring nothing from play . But at the same time tyrone also have good defenders.

I'm looking forward to this one. Because of the great healthy rivalry that exists between Down and Tyrone, this could be the game of the season.
my prediction....Down by 2 points

Down reached the league final, albeit Division 2, and have some serious scoring forwards, and a shaky defence.

Tyrone still play a 15 man running game but lack the individual talent to make it pay off at a top level.

So how good are Down, do they reach the "level" that can beat Tyrone? last year Kildare nearly did, and Down are as good as Kildare.

I think Down will win this, if the defence performs, as Tyrone still have 14 forwards. Maybe they do not have an outstanding forward anymore, alas O'Neill is wracked by injury, but they still have 14 of them.

Would appear that Tyrone can't lose this game. If they win, they were always going to win, if they lose it's because they prefer the back door!!!

I was impressed with Down in the league but Tyrone won't want to go through the back door if it they don't have to so I expect they will up their game.....I don't think they are gone at all; sure some of the lads are getting over the hill but its still a younger team than Kerry. If they lose, you may hear a repeat of the "struggling" teams saga. If they win against Down, I am expecting that Tyrone will be around for Croke Park. Down is a team on the way up-they will have no fear of Tyrone-they beat them in 08; Tyrone a team of class and experience....however, the hunger and energy will need to be there on Sunday for them to win. Am looking forward to a good game

whilst down are on the up i still think tyrone have a few points to prove and by the noises coming out of training are really up for this game. down have been making noises all season and in wee james, they have added a bit of loudness add in tally who hardly needs an introduction in tyrone especially to the lord and master harte and mcivor who was sniffing after his job in 08 i would suspect that all hell (sorry master) will be unleashed on sat. tyrone will destroy down on saturday and after kerrys majestic performance on sunday i expect both teams to contest sam in sept with the usual outcome. tyrone 2 -20 down 2-8 (12 points pulling up).

Artisan, I'm an Armagh man. Tyrone will win if they want to it's that simple. Down are on a par with Armagh at the minute, wouldn't see Down as a better team than Armagh and I don't see this as a good Armagh side at all.

673055 To be fair Kerry v Cork is the biggest game these days

If going by last weeks game there not as it was one of the worst games this year . On tyrone v down i feel down might catch us this time around again but hope not.

Funny that! The two Cork v Kerry games were terrific, full of excitement and good footbqall. The best games this year by a mile. A real breath of fresh air after some of the drivel we have seen and are likely to see in coming weeks.

Normally I have an opinion on everything, but I cant call this game.

Both teams have better forwards than backs so should be plenty of scores. I do have to say though that neither defence is as poor as made out to be. Down have tightened up well at the back & concede less cheap scores than before & Tyrone have some outstanding defenders like Gormley & McMahon.

Midfield is where the game will be won. Kevin Hughes on last season's form will be hard to stop from getting possession to his forwards, & a few scores in the process, who will partner him though?. Ambrose is not near match fit nor is Dan Gordon so Down must have a worry in this area.

The managers also have a big job to do on the tactical side. The sweeper was a disaster for Down in the first half against Donegall & Colgan cannot leave a player like Brian McGuigan or Sean Cavanagh free while he chases back into the full back line. How Wee James copes with defending the Tyrone attack whilst dealing with Tyrone's spare man (if any!) will be interesting. Mickey Harte has a few questions to answer too. Will he drop a half forward back as sweeper or try to expose the 'weak' Down defence by pressing them with a stronger forward line.

Hard to call a winner but my heart says Down by 2!

Tyrone not motoring as they were especially in the half back line which was key to them before.Down were far from impressive against Donegal and will need to tighten up against a dangerous Tyrone attack.Clarke is going to have to have an improved game that's for sure he wasn't great last day out.I still fancy Tyrone to shade it.
