Trenchman:

I personally have an issue with the players giving this media coverage especially after the matter of the defeat, Again I think they's be better off staying away from the media and get their shop in order....would have perfered him to have said "We'll just have to try and prove them wrong". Take the criticsm on board even if they think it's not justified and use it as motivation.

Saying that in the why Mcgrath plays on the pitch he can be one of the leaders of the tipp team on the pitch where leadership is needed.

Question: If Tipp had put in a sparkling display and won by 5+ points, would Babs have come out and praised them for playing so well?
Probably not. Which sort of sums up this whole scenario. The post about him being the Hurling equivalent of Pat Spillane is about right.

I know where some posters are coming from but it does Pat Spillane a great disservice to compare him with Babs. Its Babs' method of keeping himself in the public eye and perhaps will get him invited to a few more golf classics.

Dont mind Babs....Liam Sheedy has done a good job with Tipp simple as that and they will walk through the qualifiers and they will be back in the AI semi final again, mark my words. no bullsh*t, if they meet Cork again at that stage..I would still fancy Tipp.

Look, Babs was a great hurler and a great manager in the 80s. He made a mess of management a few years ago. His weakness is that he loves mikes and being in print and on TV. He says controversial things and that's why he's quoted so often.

Babs talks about players failing the supporters. He managed Offaly and they were a mess. Once he left Michael Bond stepped in and they won the All-Ireland. He achieved nothing with Tipp in his second stint. A miserable defeat on Croke Park ended his tenure. Under Liam Sheedy Tipp until last Sunday had improved hugely. That says it all about Babs.
